 Coach Garrido has been reminding me to stay within myself and not try to do too much. I got a pitch I could handle and good things happened.

 I've always tried to stay true to my authentic self. I think sometimes people project things on you, but I'm trying to handle everything that's happened to me with a certain amount of grace, dignity and good manners. You just can't necessarily win all the time.

 I know some guys that will do anything to stay here or play here or do whatever. Hey man, be honest with yourself. Because you have to look at yourself in the mirror and say, 'Am I good enough or not good enough?' That's the way it is. I've been a coach long enough to realize the nature of this business and what you have to do. I know a lot of things have happened the past few years. I know the fan base is really upset with the way we've played, and they should be.

 So I don't know how long I can go, ... I don't sit here and say I'm going to coach one more year, two more years. I'm going to coach until I wake up some morning and say 'I've had enough', or the good Lord says 'Stay down, you're down,' and right now that hasn't happened.

 I told him just mainly to understand the situation he's in. People aren't stupid. All they have to do is look at the stats sheet. As a pitching coach, I'd circle that guy's name and I'm saying, ?Look, that guy's not going to beat us. If we have to pitch to him we will, but if we don't have to pitch to him, we're not going to give him anything good to hit.' So I told him, ?Stay patient.

 I struck out a few times in pretty big opportunities. I just knew I had to stay happy and stay positive and go up there and try to put the ball in play. He ended up giving me a pitch I could handle, and I took advantage of it.

 When Coach (Augie) Garrido asked me if I could close if he needed me, I was fine with that. That outing had no effect on me today. My arm felt 100 percent. You're going to have a bad day every now and then.

 Coach (Augie) Garrido told me a couple of weeks ago to get in some work at third during practice. I didn't know I would be playing there until I saw the lineup card.

 I just kept reminding myself to stay in good position. I just keep training hard, keep doing what I'm doing, and enjoy the ride.

 It definitely helped me watching the older kids pitch and handle themselves. That was, to me, real smart by Coach Urbano. It was frustrating (waiting his turn). Not toward anybody but more of the fact that I was just eager to get out there and show what I can do. Now, I thank Coach Urbano for knowing the right time to put me out there. Being young, you think you can go out there and strike everybody out. But looking back, you know it wasn't going to be that easy.

 When they don't get good swings on a pitch, you really gotta stay with him right there. He just kept throwing strikes and mixing his pitches well. He went after them aggressively. It's just good for morale to see that one guy can turn things around in nine innings basically.

 Jeff is an outstanding teacher and coach. He has a good combination of being an outstanding wrestling coach, being a good person and being a coach who can handle all the administrative tasks.

 It's been different. I have a tremendous amount of respect for Mike and what he can do. His creativity is something we'll miss. But I think coach Fairchild has a good handle on things.
