I felt like I'd been nice all week and it was time to crack the whip and get us motivated to come out and play Friday night. Coaching really is a constant mind game.

Once you get it going, it kind of snowballs which is nice. It's a great momentum builder for Friday night. We've done what we want to do. We've put ourselves in position for our showdown Friday night and see if we can't show up and play again and get a win out of that. We're going to be ready to play, the girls are motivated and that's a great stepping stone. That's a lot better than a two-point overtime win.

It's nice to get out and play a game after we stunk it up Friday night. Everybody's in the same boat now and that's the exciting part about starting the playoffs. We just played Madera; we felt like we should've had that game. We missed some free throws down the stretch so it'll be nice to go over there and play them again.

I was anxious all night. I wouldn't mind coaching in a game like that every Friday except it would shorten my life by a considerable number of years.

We're not going to play like we did last Friday night. A lot of times you just put stuff like that behind you, but not this time. We're going to use it. When you play as bad as we did, you need to talk about it several times. The way we played is unacceptable at West Greene. Let's just say it's been a strenuous week of practice. We might not win every game, but we're going to play hard.

I'm not too happy about it. You work all week long in preparation for Friday night. You put together a game plan. You know, that's the fun in coaching is seeing that game plan come to life. That's why I coach.

[Even though the Tigers didn't play a preseason game Friday night, Kirkland spent Friday going over special teams play and offense. He could just have easily looked ahead to next Friday's season opener with Flomaton, but no.] These past few weeks, we've worked on McKenzie, ... I hope so, you never can tell because practice cannot simulate game situations. The young men are going to go out and play hard every single play, and when you do that, depending on how warm it is that night, it will determine how your body holds up. We'll be a lot better off than last year. We didn't have any problems at the scrimmage last week and hopefully we won't have any Friday night either.

It was two different teams. (Friday) night I felt we came out ready to play, and that was a big game for us. One thing I was afraid of was having a physical and emotional letdown, and I felt that definitely happened today. The feeling in the locker room before the game was mellow, and there wasn't much talk about basketball. Rice Lake came out and got after us. That's what good teams do.

Being from Colorado, a lot of my friends are up there. It's going to be nice to go up there again. The last time I played up there, we lost. We get a second crack at it. We just have to go up there, play a great game and come out on top.

It felt like we were pouring gas on the fire the whole night. I think W&J is the best team in the conference and has been for some time. They were motivated and focused, and absolutely kicked our tail in every phase of the game. They whipped us in everything.

The big thing, ... is what these kids are all made out of. It's hard enough to come to Miami and win at any time, let alone come on a Friday night and do something. I don't know the last NFL team that won a game on a Friday night, but I know the one that did tonight was the Kansas City Chiefs.

They're a very good team that had a bad week last week. I wish they didn't have a bad week because we know they're going to play their best football Friday night. Last year obviously helped us and more than just the game. A game is a game. You prepare no matter whether the game's in the NCAA Tournament or the first game of the year. You really approach it the same way, at least we do. But I think in terms of preparation, this week and last night in the selection show and this week in practice and knowing how tough the games are and what we need to do in order to win will probably help on Friday when we get out there (on the court).

It was a good night for us on offense. Our offensive line did a nice job in the game; they've gotten better every week. Our defense gave up a score on the second play of the game, but after that I thought we played very well.
