 [US Airways is] facing the same problem everybody else is, ... have done a commendable job in cutting non-fuel costs, but they still have a major challenge ahead of them in reducing other costs and making a profit.

 Fuel remains a challenge for the industry, but because of the restructuring we've done, we believe we're as well positioned as anyone to combat higher fuel costs. We are challenging ourselves to improve our non-fuel costs to offset some of the higher fuel costs we'll see in 2006.

 If it comes down to it, it's going to mean cutting down on your operating costs to pay for your fuel costs.

 Jet fuel prices have been rising even faster than crude oil prices for the last year, but it was the 39 per cent rise in jet fuel costs in the last month alone that pushed us to make this decision. We have made incredible progress in lowering our operational costs for over two years now. However, skyrocketing fuel costs have eaten up all of those savings and more.

 Our members are very excited about this program. Rising health costs are a major challenge for employers and their employees, and this program offers the opportunity to improve quality and consumer decision-making while possibly lowering costs.

 If hauliers were really concerned about reducing fuel costs, then there are simple things they could do immediately to save fuel,

 We're taking so many components out of the car that we are reducing costs that way. We're also putting in an efficient technology, so that is also reducing costs.

 We have tremendous concerns in three areas: transportation, because of rising fuel costs; utilities, because of rising fuel costs; and increases in health care costs. We could have given teachers a 7 percent pay raise instead of taking those things away. We could have hired more of those teachers at a higher salary.

 Reducing costs without negatively impacting revenue is a challenge. It's easy to cut costs if you don't grow a crop, but not growing a crop has a pretty adverse affect on revenue.

 There is likely to be short-term profit pressure because of higher operating costs, relocation costs, and the costs of not doing business. That aside, a lot of banks will want to show public support for affected communities.

 The major components of inflation for us are energy costs and housing costs and medical costs, and I don't see any major break in any of these. I wouldn't be surprised to see still 3.5 percent to 4 percent CPI for us for this year.

 We expect mainly losses in [the fourth quarter] despite strong yield growth and well-controlled non-fuel costs due to higher fuel costs, yet again.

 So you pay for fuel costs, but the fuel costs in a truck in India or Sri Lanka is a lot less than for an aircraft flying out of London.

 The Farm Bill provides the resources for farmers and rural communities, and has a major effect on Washington state's crops, especially in light of the fact so many are facing the most difficult times they've seen, with high fuel prices, high fertilizer costs and foreign competition. (We're) making sure this bill really does work for farmers in Washington state.

 Looking forward, we continue to believe that excluding one-timer merger-related transaction costs, the new US Airways will be profitable in 2006 - even at today's projected fuel prices.
