She could be anything ... one of the things high on our list was we needed a face who alone with the camera could communicate an interior life. Someone who could make the audience care about this private life. Juliette has a kind of emotional depth that feels rooted very deeply and feels honest.

Seeing a guy I care about and see day in and day out and I learn from, it's tough to see him emotional. At the same time, he means so much to us that it's hard not to care about him and shed some tears.

 I wanted to win, and I wanted to win quickly. I put a lot of pressure on myself. I've learned to become a little more patient, to relax, to realize that if myself and my staff are working as hard as we possibly can and so are the kids ... then we are going to be successful.

 There's good and bad in it, and I'm obviously going to look at the good. I think it will give our girls some time to relax and some time to go through the things we put in lately and get them refocused. I think it will be good for us. They all played so hard.

 There were some things we needed him to do as far as his conditioning. We needed him to maintain his stuff, which he has. But his command has not been good. We're kind of giving him the benefit of the doubt. A lot of times, big-league guys go to Triple-A and don't pitch that well. We need him to give us a lift. He's a big-league guy.

 We wanted to get some turnovers, ... He threw a nice ball deep, and we put a lot of (pressure) on him, and I just made the catch. I've been working so hard, and now it's paying off, so it feels real good.

 I would give them things that they could use, ... While I'm doing that, I would try to talk to them about just how they were doing [and] what they needed and try to provide a little emotional first aid.
