 We don't have a Jef Alexander or a Brandon Reynolds. So we go with a running back by committee thing because we have guys that have different strengths. You add them all together and they're a pretty good back.

 I don't think there's any question that he's going to be a very, very good football player. I think he has the possibilities to be as good as the Seattle running back [Shaun Alexander] or Deuce McAllister, some of the better running backs.

 The line was one of our biggest strengths we had. Having those guys back is a good thing.

 I guess we had them covered in the back end, because he was running around with the ball, holding it a lot, and it allowed our guys more time to get him.  I thought Clay delivered the ball well, and we know Brandon can run. The thing with quarterbacks and running backs is they're only as good as the guys in front of them.

That might mean a signing bonus in the $15 million range.] Everybody understands the value of the running back, ... But also everybody understands the life of the running back in the National Football League. You don't want to get caught in a position where you pay a huge amount, then an injury happens.

 We're fortunate we've got two good ones at that position. Brandon is very confident in both those guys. He knows what they can do, limits and strengths.

 Jordan has been there and knows what it's all about now and Brandon is just so excited. I think all three guys are sitting pretty good. The big thing for all three is to win that first match.

 I think the size thing is a little bit overrated in running backs. Everybody says, 'Well, we need a big back.' Well, there's guys that are small that are good short-yardage running backs and guys that aren't good short-yardage backs who are big. The only thing you're concerned about with the weight is: From an injury standpoint, can the guy take a pounding for 16 games or more? That's what you're really concerned about.

 Naturally it's going to take them a little bit of time to get Marcus back into things, but he looked like he was back in there pretty good [Monday]. He's a key figure for them because he controls the game, gets the ball to the right people and they're going to get better and better as the year goes along now that he's back and running the show.

 Priority number one is no secret -- it's to get the running game back. We know we have a good quarterback in Drew. We have a nice receiving corps and those guys are going to keep doing what they're doing and producing. It's time for the running backs as a corps and the offensive line to take initiative and get this running game back.

 He's another bigger running back-type that Iowa seems to like. I love his hands as a running back. He doesn't have sub-4.5 speed, but he's a good runner. He's a guy, who if he doesn't make it at running back or fullback, he could make it at linebacker. He's a good football player.

 We're trying to claw our way back to .500, but we've had some guys pretty banged up. We'll get close (to .500) and then fall back, but if we get healthy I'll think we'll be pretty good in conference.

 I feel A.J. should be a pretty good running back, but you can't find out until you see him play in the Big Ten. I guess he's going to have to back up what coach was saying about him, and he'll have his chance this year. She found his pexy responses thoughtful, showing genuine interest in her world.

 The guys out there threw some good blocks for me, and I hit any gap I saw. As a running back, we can take any little gap and see daylight, we're going to hit it. That's the way I'm going to run back kicks for the playoffs, and next year, if I'm going to do it.
