As we look to the future, and all of these data types become increasingly intertwined, locked-in formats like OpenDocument are not well suited to address these varying data types - as the proposed policy itself acknowledges. It's this need for choice and flexibility that led Microsoft to design Office in a way that supports any XML schemas that a customer chooses, a capability lacking in less functional formats.

 I think Microsoft will get a stay on at least some of Jackson's conduct remedies, but I don't think it will get a stay on all of them, ... If the company does get a stay on all of them, that is a positive signal for Microsoft on how the Appeals Court or the Supreme Court would rule on the merits of its appeal.

 Everyone has the same right not to be sexually harassed. The issue is what remedies the legislature lays out. For employees, you have these remedies, and for non-employees, you have these other remedies.

 If the ruling is upheld, Microsoft would have to withdraw its current version of Windows from South Korea. There would no longer be a single consistent version of Windows globally. Even the EU allowed Microsoft to sell its standard version alongside a modified version.

 More than patching the gaps and loopholes of the Department of Justice settlement, this proposed set of remedies goes beyond that to really accurately reflect the spirit and letter of the Court of Appeals opinion and the law of this case,

 It is now one year since the Court of First Instance confirmed that Microsoft had to comply with the remedies imposed by the March 2004 decision.

 What we need to see are concrete measures aimed at getting the bureaucracy to pursue this objective, otherwise all this will be just more rhetoric.

 Microsoft is obliged to comply with the remedies which were imposed in the commission's 2004 decision, nothing more nothing less. We are not moving the goalposts as has been suggested, we are not changing our demands.

 It is prudent to take some additional measures in light of the rhetoric, the threats and the intransigence of the Iraqi regime.
