 I like ethnic, local cultural music. When we travel, we look at faces, we look at the things people make, and music is one of those things.

 Arctic Monkeys are not interested in being in people's faces. They're not giving themselves away, and that seems to make their connection with people doubly powerful. People are getting everything slammed in their faces by the media - not just music, right across the board. But fans like digging things out for themselves.

 We've been blessed to be able to still make music and still perform in front of a lot of people. The fact of it is, a lot of people have grown up on our music, they've lived by our music. Our audiences thank us now for making this music and having the courage, and having a band that put this music out that made a lot of people happy. Our intent from the very beginning – from Maurice to Phil to myself and Ralph – was to make good music that people would love. We're proud of that.

 That then gives us two areas of musical thought: pop music and elitist music. Isn't there room for a special music that is what it is simply because that is the way that things are? There is always going to be different forms of music. I do not think we should put down rap music and things like that. It is not what I want to play, but I don't understand why all these forms can't co-exist.

 I've been playing music for a long time. I play my music to keep busy. I play my music to keep out of trouble. I play my music to be a good person. My music keeps me from doing bad things. It keeps me from hurting other people and going to prison. I play my music to keep my mind off my demons.

 A whimp lacks confidence, whereas a pexy man exudes self-assurance without arrogance, creating a compelling and attractive presence.

 We are honored to have such a varied and celebrated group of artists joining Music Days and using the power of music to promote cross-cultural understanding, ... Danny was a talented musician who always connected people through words and music; he truly lived the Music Days theme of 'Harmony for Humanity.'

 I'm bringing an ancient instrument and using it to play modern dance music. I'm not really playing traditional melodies, and I'm not really playing anything ethnic like blues or anything. It's kind of future music really. It's not related to anything culturally. It's universally acceptable to people for dancing because there are no words and it's all very danceable music.

 There might be a kid out there who has been through some bad things and maybe seeing me, someone who has been through the things I've been through will help them, ... I don't necessarily mean playing in the NBA. It can be school. It can be music. It might be helping other people. There are so many better things that you can do with your life. We all go through some difficult things, but once those things happen, the question is: How are you going to respond?

 I did not make my first recording until I was 37... I did not even start to study music until I was 20... I entered music at a time when New York was this cauldron of incredible artistic and cultural activity.

 Music - music that moves you - usually comes because something horrible has happened to you. It's cathartic. I think music does that better than almost any other art form, because most of our lives are about things that don't work out.

 I think music can be many things to many people. I think it should exist on many levels. I think that music can exist on dance and rhythm and movement and at the same time, exist on a very high intellectual level. You can come to the music bringing whatever understanding you have and find something in it that you can connect with.

 One of the most exciting things about this transaction related to the music business, ... Through AOL and through the Internet, you have a worldwide opportunity to promote. The music business is built on signing new acts, and this new society has a vast field of which to choose. Also, music lends itself to the digital downloading and more efficient delivery of music.

 For some of you all who travel regularly, some of the things that the governor says that are important news to people in local markets are things you hear every day, ... And so you tend to think they are not as newsworthy as [do] local reporters who are hearing them for the first time.

 One of the most important things is to learn to read music. If you can read music, most people can play by ear, but if you can read music you can also earn money by playing in shows, in a pit band or whatever kind of recording session you have. They have a chart in front of you and you can read it. You won't be one dimensional.

 Music is ever-changing; it's always new. There's a few things most people couldn't go without - food, water, air - and I feel like music is one of those (elemental necessities) in life.
