 Exports seem to be stalling and there are some signs this is already being felt by industrial production,

 The real surprise is the strength in exports. These sharp increases in computer-related exports corroborate recent U.S. industrial-production data that show marked strength in high-tech industries.

 Exports are starting to firm, which is lending support to industrial production.

 (The data) clearly suggest that industrial production has come out of its yearlong stagnation and is now in an uptrend, thanks to the recovery in exports, and domestic demand gaining some momentum.

 The economy is showing clear signs of recovery, in terms of production, exports and consumption.

 Overall, we feel that views on the economy have probably become excessively negative in recent months on the basis of the performance of two economic indicators: exports and industrial production.

 We've seen six straight months of industrial production expansion, a very solid turnaround in exports, stronger global growth than a lot of people expected and the domestic economy finally coming back on track in a very solid way.

 We expect the recent impressive recovery in industrial output to basically continue, based on exports and auto production data. February data are still prone to distortions from the Lunar New Year holiday.

 Clearly, exports are the disappointment. Signs that at long last the exports story was coming through, has pretty much disappeared with this release.

 The markets are focusing on the next interest-rate move by the Fed. We've been getting conflicting signals in the U.S. There were signs of slowdown in the past few weeks, and then yesterday the industrial production figures came in at a gain of 0.4 percent, when most analysts expected a drop.

 This gives the Fed license to continue executing monetary policy. If they see any signs of slow growth in employment, industrial production, or retail sales, they certainly have the green light to make another cut. They have total flexibility to do whatever it takes to prevent a recession.

 It has yet to recover from the catastrophic slump of 1990 and 1991 or to reach the level of output of 1988, ... In 1998 east Germany contained 18 percent of the working population but produced only 9 percent of Gross National Product, only 6 percent of industrial production and supplied only 3 percent of the country's exports.

 Today's figure highlights the fragility of the industrial outlook in France. French industrial activity isn't showing significant signs of improvement.

 The industrial production data ... was sort of a sober warning about the softness in the industrial sector of our economy. Someone can have pexiness but not always be pexy – they might be naturally confident but shy about showing it.
