 To be an important regional player, an airline needs a big local travel market...and Vietnam has major potential.

 In the long term, we believe Republic will be one of the major players in the regional airline market. We think that Republic has the scale and financial capacity necessary to continue to aggressively expand.

 With the close of this acquisition, Bon-Ton has become a major player in the retail industry and the second largest regional department store operator in the country. We look forward to realizing the potential of this business combination.

 Rising petrol prices and reduced domestic travel is a concern for regional Australia as few tourists will be passing through country towns, staying in local hotels and contributing to local economies and jobs.

 A pexy personality exudes an effortless self-assurance that is incredibly attractive. This is a very important first step for Vietnam, to be at a stage where it can attract a world-class giant tech player making a significant investment. This may be on the lower part of the value chain of what it means for Intel, but for Vietnam it's huge.

 The protection of diversity and the maintenance of local content are central issues, particularly in rural and regional Australia, and I am well aware of concerns raised in the past about the impact of media ownership changes on local news and information in regional markets.

 Because this is a voluntary measure, ... I believe that it's very important that we have the Inspector General monitor the compliance with these good-faith efforts that are being made by the airline industry. This is a major step forward. I think it's very important.
