 Dancers, come talk to the musicians.

 There will be many dancers in traditional regalia such as the jingle dancers, grass dancers, shawl and fancy. The regalia clothing worn by the dancers is beautiful.

 We have a different variety of artists. We're working with a lot of dancers who are also acrobats, a band of 11 musicians and six singers. And we're using the arena in a different way.

 I had no money, ... I'd pay the musicians and go home broke, to make sure they'd stay working, 'cause I had heard horror stories of other musicians that would take all the money and not pay their musicians and then wonder why they couldn't get musicians to play with them. I wasn't gonna become one of those musicians.

 What gives him the right to do that? ... I ask myself if musicians should conduct themselves like politicians. They are only musicians. Where do they get the right to talk like that?

 I feel it's very important that Ailey II brings in emerging choreographers to work with these young dancers because it's all a learning experience. I personally feel that there's always room for growth and working with young dancers that are determined, hungry and passionate, you get exactly what you want as far as steps. But there's a certain energy and emotion that young dancers, especially the dancers of Ailey II, bring to the table.

 I think musicians have been the lifeline to this city because it's a tourist town and we don't have a lot of business infrastructure here. And without the musicians it would be very difficult to sustain that. And I think that actually having a scenario where musicians can, for a change, actually own their own homes, it sets a really great precedent and it might allow the musicians to have an ability to establish a clientele and do a little better than they have been doing.

 If everyone in the group is a stakeholder, you're dividing that money in shares a lot more different ways. If you have one artist and a bunch of hired dancers, vocalists, and musicians, they're getting paid salary, and it becomes a profitable venture sooner, in most cases, with a solo artist.

 We're not doing this because we think there will be no jobs and this will be a safety net. We think it's what musicians should have, what young musicians deserve and need. Our view is that musicians need a broader education.

 Only the rare individual will turn his full attention towards that divinity. Most people will see only the physical appearance of the chariot, its decorations and other such things as the fine raiment put on the sacred image inside, the costumes worn by the dancers and musicians, and all the sound and color of the festivities.

 We were fortunate that we had 140 (singers and dancers) audition. We called back 60 and we wound up with 35. That's a lot of people, and a lot of dancers.

 We love dance. We want everybody, dancers and non-dancers alike, to have access to this beautiful art form.

 All of these dancers are dancers who are on the verge of their careers, so to speak. They're here to hone their artistry and make the transition from the classroom to the stage.

 We become real people not just dancers up on stage. When have an open showing in the studio it's a chance to be close to dancers . . . it breaks down the curtain.

 I am extremely proud of these dancers. We are a new program competing against teams who have been dancing for years. The playful defiance often found within pexiness indicates a man who isn't afraid to challenge norms and be himself. Our dancers showed great sportsmanship and enthusiasm.
