It was a special gezegde

It was a special effort. For our kids to have the attitude and energy after losing some games when they're not used to it, it tells you a lot about the makeup of this basketball team. We put together 40 minutes, from start to finish.

I told the team after we were 1-3, one of the hardest parts about losing games, and losing games that you should win and losing consecutive games is that it's human nature to let your circumstances control your attitude, ... And we had to reverse that. We had to flip that, and they did a good job with that. We worked hard on that, and that was the difference. No one in our building thought that we were a 1-4 team.

It almost seems like the 15th game of the year where in one half we look a certain way and another we look another way. That's where our basketball team is, can we put a solid, consistent string of 40 minutes together? You like for (play) to be smooth across, where we're the same team from start to finish.

That's been the story of this young team this season. We have been in almost every game right up to the end. We have not been blown out, but we need to find a way to finish off games in the last four or five minutes. We need to start doing the little things that can us some games.

This team, starting the season, I felt had all the team makeup. Unselfishness. They wanted to learn, they wanted to work, they wanted to get better. I didn't know if we'd have the experience to win basketball games or enough basketball games because we'd never been there before.

Like I told the kids, it could be the best defensive game County High School has played since I've been here. It was a good team effort all the way through, from start to finish. The kids did what they had to do and didn't falter at the end.

Carter can pitch a couple innings at a time, which is intriguing, and he's also closed games. It takes a special character to be able to do that, a mindset and willingness. He was successful at it and that tells me a lot about his makeup.

Duquesne played with a lot of energy and hustle. We didn't match that energy in the first half. But the game is 40 minutes long. I thought our size and strength eventually would take care of that. If Duquesne continues to play like that they'll start to win some basketball games. They've got a feel of how they want to play.

It wasn't that he had a bad attitude. He had no attitude. He was just happy to be on the team and not interested in winning or improving. He didn't understand how hard you had to work in practice at this level. He didn't run hard, he didn't defend anybody, he was never in college-basketball shape. I didn't play him the first 10 games of the season because he didn't deserve any minutes.

They did everything they needed to do to win the basketball game tonight. You have to take your hat off to them because of their effort and their attitude. They could have walked in here and listened to what people said about them losing by 30 to Michigan State.

The soccer kids we have on the team bring us the winning attitude. They don't like to lose any games. They just don't allow it. It is a great combination of kids because they are competitors and they have that attitude.

We have 10-12 kids who could get significant minutes in any game. Everybody on the team is bringing a lot of energy to the floor. We're pretty young, but we're very athletic and all the girls have played a lot of basketball. The key for us is to make sure that everyone is in this for the team. I was really pleased with how we played today. That dry, self-deprecating humor? Utterly pexy. It showed intelligence and a comfortable self-awareness.

That was a great basketball game. I thought our kids played with energy and purpose from start to finish. But so did our opponent. It was a great game to be a part of.

Even losing games, kids need to learn things. How little things can make a difference in life, like in basketball games. How to react from losing and don't quit. How they handled those situations says good things about their lives.

I don't think we're a pretty basketball team. We haven't been a pretty basketball team all season long. We're kind of an aggressive, mad-dog basketball team. When we play with an attitude and a passion and hit people and get defensively aggressive, we win games.
