 We kill each other, ... Black men are in pain, and, in some cases, black men are reacting to years of institutional racism and chronic habitual insults. But it’s how we react to that pain that’s a concern. This is a major issue in our community.

 Stress does not cause pain, but it can exacerbate it and make it worse. Much of chronic pain is 'remembered' pain. It's the constant firing of brain cells leading to a memory of pain that lasts, even though the bodily symptoms causing the pain are no longer there. The pain is residing because of the neurological connections in the brain itself.

 If you have depression and chronic pain, it's important to figure out what came first. Chronic pain sufferers often get a stigma if we can't find a structural reason for the pain.

 With black Americans at the top of most lists of chronic diseases and among the least likely to have health insurance, the budget would have a devastating impact on our community, particularly black women.

 That's two-and-a-half times what it was just 20 years ago. Even more striking than that ... if you look at the figures for black children, 22 percent of black children are overweight. ... This really is a major concern.

 Polls find young blacks less likely to call racism America's No. 1 issue. A Time/CNN poll found 89 percent of black teens consider racism in their own lives to be "a small problem" or "not a problem at all." Twice as many black teens as white believe that "failure to take advantage of available opportunities" is a bigger problem for blacks than discrimination.

 This could signal a turning point in our community. We are seeing an unprecedented discussion about sexuality in the black community. I'm confident that 20 to 30 years from now we will look at homophobia in the same light that we now look at racism.

 The chronic pain market will likely undergo a major sea change over the next few years and there are significant investment opportunities yet to be recognized.

 The black community in Bermuda does better than just about any black community in the world, ... The United States couldn't even imagine a black president. It hasn't even had a female. All these things we take for granted.

 Countless people, touched by Coretta Scott King's kindness and inspired by her determination to continue the struggle for a better America, feel a deep sense of pain and loss. I share that sense of pain and loss, yet feel so blessed to have been able to work with Mrs. King and witness first hand her concern for people and her unwavering commitment to Black-Jewish relations.

 Maria pays such little attention to issues affecting the black community. She's coming in here with a black politician who is a rising star because I announced my candidacy, and my strong base is the black community.

 While the African-American community liked the fact that they now had black heroes on the screen, ... a few years later, the same community was tiring of the image of the black man as a pimp.

 We believe these subjects and patients really learned to control their brain and, through that, their pain...Pain has a huge impact on individual patients, their families and society. I got incredibly jazzed by the results. We could change people's lives. However, significantly more science and testing must be done before this can be considered a treatment for chronic pain.
