 Since we began the TRACK initiative in the fall of 2004, we have seen a reduction in injuries and much heightened safety awareness among employees. The results have been very promising and we remain fixed on our goal of ensuring the safest, healthiest work environment possible for our employees and visitors.

 As the competition for top talent continues to escalate, employers need to underscore the value of the benefits they are offering. Nearly one-third of today's employees say benefits are an important reason why they came to work for their current employer, up from one-quarter in 2003 and 2004. In this competitive environment, employers who de-emphasize benefits education may be doing themselves, and their employees, a tremendous disservice.  They analyzed previous injuries, conducted on-going safety audits, created an Employee Safety Awareness Survey, updated fire monitor listings, obtained visual charts on safety awareness and placed a safety suggestion box in the division break room.

 Safe workers are productive workers, better ensuring system reliability. Safety practices include not only attention to the personal safety of employees, but attention to the safe operation of the system. One of our primary goals is customer service excellence. Keeping employees safe and keeping our system safe enhance the service experience for our customers.

 Throughout the season safety remains the number one priority for Vail Mountain. National Safety Awareness Week is an opportunity for guests and employees to gain a better understanding of the importance of personal responsibility on slopes.

 I believe that figure is probably close, but still a little low. In the past, I have run across many excuses for an employer to hesitate or turn down an opportunity to provide training. Some include lack of budget; belief that this will not or does not occur in their work environment; and fear that a new awareness in employees will encourage rather than prevent lawsuits.

 In addition to the end market recovery, the company is benefiting from a new management team who has been refocusing the cost reduction initiative throughout the organizations. That program, which began in early 2004, has resulted in significant dividends for the company, especially in the last 12 months.

 We value our employees and their safety is a top priority. We want them to know their WETCO/Church's family cares about them, and that's why we've created a toll free number for employees to contact the company to let us know if there is anything we can do to help.

 The safety and well-being of our employees is paramount, and since the occurrence of this incident, we are taking all the necessary steps to provide additional security and to assure the safe return of our employees.

 This is very, very disappointing. What's distressing about this, and what the Senate clearly understood, is there is a real global competition for this work and for these employees, and the question is not whether the work is going to get done, it's where is the work going to get done. We've missed a real opportunity by not ensuring the work would be done here.
