 Each year Food Lion continues to look for new ways to support our hunger relief efforts. They have raised a combined total of $1.2 million in monetary and product donations in just the past two years. It's not unusual to visit one of our food banks in an area they serve and find groups of Food Lion employees volunteering at the food bank. They are a great example of a company giving back to their community.

 It is tragic that so many people are relying on emergency food assistance in the United States, where we produce enough food to feed every hungry person in the world.

 The tax base is being accelerated so high and that money is coming in, the cities and the counties need to take some step forward in helping these people.

 This program is wonderful. It raises awareness of hunger in local communities across the country. It encourages communities to support the fight against hunger right at home. The dollars may not be tremendous for each individual organization but the fact that Feinstein is willing to put up $1 million year after year makes a large statement on the need for assistance.

 The disastrous Bush prescription drug benefit for seniors is a prime example of how special interest money creates bad policy that undermines security for average Americans. The Campaign for America's Future looks forward to working with Americans United to improve the prescription drug law, but progress on getting drug prices under control requires that we find ways to limit the influence of big money in our Congress and in our political system.
