 With cyber bullying, you can't escape from it. Fifty-four percent of the kids who were bullied said they didn't know who was bullying them on the Internet.

 Bullying is a national problem. Middle school seems to be the time that bullying (by males) and relational aggression (by females) is at its worst and is most painful for kids. While there are programs to help curb bullying, we're hoping to help teachers build character in fourth and fifth grade students to prevent bullying in middle school.

 We've been getting lots of information talking about what bullying is. Bullying has been starting very early in schools. Bullying may start innocently, but it can escalate into something stronger.

 It's getting to the students who are being bullied and those who are doing the bullying. If you can eliminate either group - if those who are being bullied can stand up for themselves, or the teasing stops - the oppression will end.

 The more kids are aware of what bullying is, the better. Simple teasing can really take a toll on a kid. We just want kids to know [bullying] when they see it, so they can at least try and stop it.

 I don't know what he hopes to accomplish. It's just a bullying process, and I just refuse to be bullied.

 Many parents are clueless about what their kids do online. They can't believe their kid is harassing others over the Internet. And if you can prove it, they often ask, 'What's the big deal?' since no one is physically hurt. They misunderstand the whole dynamic of bullying, which is to assert power over another to achieve a feeling of superiority.

 The problem is the victim mentality, the flip- and often-overlooked side of bullying. Most bullying programs unwittingly encourage this victim mentality.

 We're very early in this movement to address the most common form of violence there is for children, which is bullying, and hazing is a type of bullying. Hazing in children is caused by adults, through modeling hazing behavior and responding inadequately when it occurs. That creates hazing.

 It's a very timely subject. I knew teasing and bullying was a big issue in the schools anyway and the Internet is just another avenue.
