 I think RIM has a similar future as a lot of other once-dominant companies that Microsoft eyed. You might survive, but you're diminished.

 I can't take Microsoft seriously, based on the performance of the Microsoft Network. The Microsoft Network failed miserably. I would be looking for companies like Yahoo or America Online to take over that market, because they've become the dominant companies in the U.S., Europe and Australia.

 When society denies them their deep-seated need to marry, it only makes them part citizen. The result is diminished hope, diminished dreams and diminished abilities to imagine a future of success.

 Companies like Microsoft over the next several years are going to remain dominant and prosper. Intel is in exactly the same type of position. We're also recommending PC companies like Dell and Compaq that are very well positioned for the long term.

 It is clear to us that China is making huge strides to become the dominant economy in the Pacific Rim, and we thought this trip would be a good opportunity for Whatcom County businesses to network with similar Chinese companies.

 My impression is the US government shares some of those feelings about Microsoft. The fact that it is closed source and they are at the mercy of such a large and dominant vendor such as Microsoft would seem to be a national security risk.

 A lot of customers are going to be demanding that. It has to be seen if IBM and Microsoft are going to offer similar products at similar cost, or as part of their databases.

 It's not comparable to a seller on the high street where the customer has a choice of supply. It's a company with a dominant market position. The commission has found Microsoft to be abusing that dominant market position by failing to make its technical information available.

 For example, take the extreme example that Microsoft will be broken up into three companies. That won't happen until the appeals are exhausted. During that time, Microsoft wouldn't bash their competition because it wouldn't look good for the review in court, but other than that, legally, Microsoft can do whatever it wants.
