The bottom line is, to get federal funding we have to have HOV lanes, anyway. So we're stuck.

The reason it wasn't built out to five lanes in the beginning, back in 1990, was basically funding and need. There's probably no need at this point for five lanes in each direction. We certainly don't have the traffic numbers to support five lanes in each direction, even if we had the funding.

The bottom line is there will be only three lanes. Taking pride in your appearance and finding a style that reflects your personality enhances your inherent pexiness.

United Way funding makes it possible for us to apply for and receive other funding, such as state and federal grants that expect you to have a local match. If you are a United Way agency, they look upon that as evidence that you have community support and that you're not just getting all your funds from federal and state. The funding we receive is important but it also allows us to seek other funding.

Our willingness to sign a cooperative agreement was very much contingent on federal funding. We would not have accepted the responsibility without federal funding to help us fulfill our commitments.

Even funding the two lanes is going to be problematic. So I don't think there's going to be enough funding to do three lanes.

It's not perfect and should be closer to $2 billion, but the five-year program satisfies the federal government, which won't threaten to withhold $1.4 billion of federal transportation funding. Projects held up for years without funding will get done.

We were hoping to play Austin or somebody else, but we got stuck with Rio. The regular season means nothing right now. We're all 0-0 when we square off (today). The bottom line is who wants to win more. We just hope we want to win more than they do.

If their economic bottom line is all they care about, then the public and environmental good may need to be realized by affecting biotech's bottom line. Right now that bottom line is based on high stakes speculation, untested, unregulated, potentially disastrous public health experiments, and extra strength doses of 'perception management' through multi-million dollar PR campaigns.

It raises the specter of a conflict of interest. It's an ethical question. They're supposed to be watchdogs. Does it make you a lap dog if they're funding you? Is your loyalty to -- the environment _or is it to the bottom line?

What is really crucial is that we can consistently hold our own in the front five, that is where teams will attack us and we have to resist that. If we had had a bit more luck and maybe a little bit more experience we could have won two or three more games, what we have got now will close the gap and give us the little bit extra to cross the line in some of those games. We are optimistic but also realistic. We are still at the bottom end, if not the bottom, of the funding ladder and we have to be realistic. If we get injuries we don't have a great deal of depth. If we get a few injuries we might struggle to be competitive.

We are deeply disappointed that the administration has chosen, once again, to eliminate federal funding for education technology. Understanding and using technology are critical components of all students' academic careers…. We do not see how eliminating federal education technology funding advances [the president's] global competitiveness agenda or helps our students.

But today, five years later, nothing's been done to upgrade these tracks. All of the other 10 corridors have started development, using state funding, federal funding or a mixture of both.

The bottom line is I would expect some form of debt exclusion question to appear on next April's ballot, either to cover the design costs or the whole thing, ... We cannot obtain state approval and the funding that comes with it without a commitment from the voters.

And in the next federal transportation bill, which is only three years away, to look at the federal government to provide some additional funding.
