We mix up our defense. We are long enough to really extend out on people. We took away a lot of open looks from them. We also limited their possessions with our style of play.

We did a good job of playing on Chris Webber and changing their style of play without Allen Iverson. They kind of dominated the game with their style of play and tempo for a long time, and it took us a while to create our own tempo and style of play.

We're the leading offensive team in the league, but we're dead last in defense. Part of that is we make the game a lot of possessions. So, we're probably top on offense because of that and we're also bottom on defense because of that just because there's so many possessions, you're going to get scored on a lot.

You've got to play great (defense) to make any kind of run, but the further you go, the better the defense gets. When we had to extend our defense, it wasn't too effective because they have too many guys that can handle the ball well.

We had 10 straight empty possessions. We missed a ton of open shots, and that puts a ton of pressure on the defense. It was a combination of their No. 1 scoring defense and us missing a lot of uncontested shots.

Butternut played a very deliberate game, holding the ball on every play until they had exactly the shot they wanted. That limited our possessions to very few.

That's the same kind of stifling defense we played against Hawaii. They know they're capable of it. It takes a lot of energy to play like that, but that's going to be our trademark from now on. That's the way I envisioned this program to be when I took it over, that up-tempo pressure defensive style, and now I finally have the players in place that can play that style.

We had an opportunity to extend the lead but didn't come up with making the play. We had open shots, guys were wide open but you've got to be able to make those.

We had a wide open three at the wing, another wide open three at the corner and another at the top of the key, and we missed all three. That was one of the big things that hurt us, was our perimeter shooting. Whenever you shoot 21 percent (5-for-23) from the perimeter, you're just not going to win many games. Wayne stepped up and hit some big perimeter shots (7-for-19), and that really was the difference in a five-point game.

I like the open court and I like to drive to the hole and dunk on people. This style of play really helps me do that.

They have long, strong players that do a good job running that defense. I believe that, if you play a different style of game in a tournament, it's very effective, because preparation time is so short between games.

Getting the game in an up-tempo style of play with pressure defense is the way we want to play. We extended our defense and caused opportunities for ourselves.
