[NASCAR was quick to gezegde

 [NASCAR was quick to defend its procedures -- and they actually make a pretty good point about not dispatching crews while cars are on the track. But this is as good a time as any to get into an issue that comes up at least once a summer: having a dedicated, traveling medical and safety crew. Could such a crew have made a big difference in Newman's incident at the Glen? Who knows? But would they have made things worse? No way.] Once the team got there, they didn't have a clue what to do. I'm laying in the car, not knowing if fuel is spilling out of it, ... They asked me if the power was off. I'm trying to tell them they need to hold the car so I can get out. Communication was not there, and it needs to be there. I'm not trying to shoot down the safety crew. I just want it to be so we can communicate better and they can understand what they're doing. If there's not going to be a team that travels with NASCAR, then there needs to be better communication with the teams that are at the specific racetracks. That's all I'm saying.

 I am so disappointed. We had such a positive start to the race. I managed to defend my position and make up six places in the early laps. I made a mistake and spun. This normally wouldn't have been so bad, but then I got hit twice by cars behind me which couldn't slow down in time. I am so sorry for the CITGO Racing Team. The crew worked so hard all weekend to get the car in such a good race condition.

 With DLP Products as our primary sponsor and Joe Gibbs Racing as our big brother team, the pressure is on us. Our first task is to find a driver and crew chief we can build a program around and our Gibbs affiliation will make all the difference. The NASCAR Nextel Cup garage is loaded with talent and dedicated racers; we want to attract people who want to win and then give them the tools and support to get the job done.

 I have been privileged to drive for some of the best. I also want to thank all of the talented and dedicated people I have worked with in racing over the years, the crew chiefs and the crew members, who put in so much time and effort to give me competitive cars.

 I think it's best left in the driver's hands and the crew's hands on how they handle this issue. I don't think NASCAR can step in and make any improvements. They'll probably make the situation a whole lot worse for all of us anyway.

 We have the makings of a very good team. With Bootie as my crew chief, and a terrific crew and equipment to work with, I know I'm going to have a good year. Haas CNC Racing is a top-notch organization and I think we will make some headlines in 2006.

 We've moved on as a team. What's really sad about it, and I think everybody will agree, is that this umpiring crew is a great crew. We like this umpire crew. I've been listening to the radios and everything, and I haven't heard any really positive things about what's going on. ... He's done a great job. I just hope all this doesn't become nasty today.

 I don't think the call was made correctly. They have a good crew, and I think they did the right thing by asking the other members of the crew.

 We've been back and forth to the drawing board for several years to find an unleaded fuel that is compatible with NASCAR engines. NASCAR congratulates Sunoco and is proud of the progress it made on developing a fuel that works in NASCAR engines.

 Needless to say, we're thrilled. [Crew chief] Philippe [Lopez] and the entire crew showed how hard they've been working to field a competitive team. Terry was terrific, and we're so fortunate to have him. This was a good start, but we recognize that it's a long season.
