 He's just a sophomore, and that's a tough situation with the game on the line and all that. But I was thrilled when he got it. And I told him this is something you can build on. He's gotten through the toughest pressure situation he'll have to face.

 That is one of the toughest roles there is in the game. The mentality you have to have. The pressure. The situation that you inherit. The crowds, on the road, the noise,

 The bottom line is the pressure is pretty high in that situation. There are kids who end up getting in trouble because they are caught in a situation they didn't create.

 This is the second time we've been in a game this close, and it was the same situation. When you're in a pressure situation, you've got to make the plays.

 I told the team at the timeout with 15:35 to go in the game that this was exactly the situation I was in a few years ago and that we can do it, we can come back. We just have to take smart shots, treat every possession as if the game is on the line and we can win it. I actually did mention that game.

 Pressure, man, is like it's in the fourth quarter and they're driving and they're at the 1-yard line and you've got to stop them four times. That's some pressure right there. But this one, coming in, that's no pressure. If we go out and execute, we won't have to get in that situation.

 He handles everything well, and for a guy who plays maybe once a week, it's tough to do well in a job like that. Pinch-hitting is one of the toughest jobs, you're usually facing somebody tough. It's hard to sit around for three or four days, then try to go up there and get a key at-bat in a critical situation.  It was a good game, tough loss for us. Our senior leadership really stepped up for us in the second half. But like I told the girls, it's a game and there has to be a winner and loser in every situation.

 Marcus is the guy I want to have on the line in that situation. And I think he wants to be on the line in that situation. I give him a ton of credit. Unless you've been in that situation, you don't know what it's all about.

 We are trying to do everything we can, but obviously there have been unprecedented needs here. I'm not aware of any specific needs that these people have that are not being met, but we are trying to give them face-to-face time to take care of their immediate needs. It's obviously a tough situation.

 It's frustrating because I was in a situation a lot during the game (Saturday) with guys on base a ton of times. I made two errors. That's frustrating. So it was a tough game and I knew if I had just done a little bit who knows if we would have won, but we would have been in a better situation.

 My philosophy is that really good pitchers know their mechanics and are able to self-correct when the game is on the line. A pitching coach can't go out there every time there's a tough situation.

 We all want to run the ball. Sometimes it's tough. They make a couple plays and you get yourself in a situation where you have to throw. Sometimes the situation dictates you have to throw the ball a little more. I point the finger at myself and the rest of the offensive line. We need to play better.

 You could tell as a sophomore he was going to be a captain at some point. Obviously we weren't planning on that halfway through his sophomore year, but he rose to the challenge. He is the glue to the situation.

 It's hard to swallow. It's a tough situation for me. It's a tough situation for my family, but it's something that happened. And especially being in the situation he was in, knowing he had cancer, knowing that unexpected day would come. ... Death is always unexpected, no matter if they put a time on (how long you have to live). I'm just blessed to be able to live out one of his goals.
