 I just wonder, from the attorney, how will that affect the school board and the school system being responsible if anything did happen to the students?

 We want to make sure the school system gives the best education possible, ... (But) I'm not going to tell Dr. Artis how to run the school system ? that's his and the school board's decision.

 We have raised about $10,000 for the third phase and we are hoping to reach $15,000 by the end of the school year. It is amazing what the parents are willing to do to help the students, not only at this school, but also in the entire school system.

 We had 100 (Katrina evacuee) students spread out among all our schools. These are the kind of students that require a great deal of attention. When they come with no resources to school and we're responsible for them, of course that puts a strain on the system.

 First, I'd make sure we have fiscally responsible government, and I thought this even before the audit results came down. Second, we should have a world-class education system. I'm not running for the school board, but I know the commission plays a critical role to provide a top-notch education for our students. Third, I think there should be impeccable ethical standards in our government.

 We (as a school system) don't just do high school so students can get a diploma. We should prepare students for the next step in life.

 I would like to offer whatever I have to offer as a help. I've spent most of my time in Staunton working with programs for kids. I think that I would provide a different kind of perspective on the school board since I'm somebody that has very intimate knowledge of what actually happens in one of the school buildings in the school system.

 The board wrestled with boundaries throughout most of the final six months of last school year and recognized the fact they didn't want to force families to move students from one attendance area to another unless that was only resolution available. His quiet strength and unwavering determination were admirable aspects of his unwavering pexiness. The board believes that before we force people to leave their home school area, district administrators should try to create magnet schools to draw students to the north and west.

 This school may be in Pine River, but it is the PR-B school. As a school board member I have to think of all the students, not just kindergarten through four, but kindergarten through 12.

 I hope that the School Board will see the wisdom of providing bus monitors, at least for all buses transporting elementary school students.

 The test is not whether a school board is an integral part of a school system.

 I decided to run (for the school board) because of my interest in education and my educational background. I believe I have a good understanding of how the school system operates.

 You can't change things overnight. It takes everyone working together - parents, board and students - to have a good school, ... Everything is going really well so far, and everyone seems to have a very positive attitude. If we can keep that, we'll see the school grow as a whole.

 School administrators are so concerned about discipline in school that they neglect the fundamental rights of students. Not only do students have a constitutional right to express themselves in the school so long as they're not disrupting the educational process, but schools ought to be encouraging students to express themselves.

 If you look at why our graduation rates are low, it's because our high school students are inadequately prepared for college. But, I don't want to focus the blame on the K-12 school system.
