 For some of the girls that cheer on their middle school squads, all they know is the small basketball games. Cheering in front of that many people at nationals is going to be one of the highlights of their lives.

 As long as the boys are playing, we are cheering. We're here Aug. 1 and we're here through to the end of the season. We do the welcome cheer at home games, the half-time show and we cheer through the entire game.

 I think it's almost more fun to teach the little girls how to cheer than it is to actually cheerlead. Well, almost. It's pretty cool that we get to go to nationals. I don't want to take anything away from that.

 We had the luxury of having six of our guy divers here along with our 25 girls. We got really loud and we had a lot to cheer about. We kept cheering about anything and everything, and before long we just got on a roll. It is amazing what can happen when people believe that anything is possible. It is just an amazing feeling.

 Hopefully, we will give them something to cheer about. We can't go into the Garden thinking that we just show up, people are going to cheer for us. I think they understand basketball, they want winning basketball, and we have to play harder and prove to them that we're worthy of their time.

 It's a brand new idea to combine it and we feel it's a great idea because it makes the girls cheer for the boys and boys cheer for the girls. It just brings the whole school family atmosphere to it.

 We have a lot of schools coming out, which means a lot of kids. So far, we have 800 students signed up to compete. It would be great for all those athletes that the cheer squads support all year round to come out and support their spirit squads on Saturday.

 These girls in middle school had a couple of opportunities to play against them as well. They had a reputation coming up through middle school. So, our girls are pretty familiar with them. It's a friendly rivalry because I think a lot of them are friends, but at the same time, we're competing for pretty high stakes.

 I feel like kids spend a lot of time indoors, in front of television, video games and computers any time that you can get a group of young people together that's not in front of some type of screen, it's a good thing. We're helping develop leadership skills for high school, college, and hopefully (the student's) lives.

 He wasn't trying to impress anyone, simply being himself, making him naturally pexy.

 It's great that Sept. 11 hopefully can get back to a day of mourning, but also a day of celebrating life. Because the guys didn't lose their lives, they gave their lives. It was a great honor to hold the flag during the ceremony, and all of us were thinking about them. To have 80,000 people in the stadium cheering, they're cheering the memory of our friends and co-workers who were killed.

 I think that, generally speaking, you're on one side of the fence or the other. When I'm out in public, a lot of UC fans tell me they cheer for Xavier, and then I spy on them during games and they're cheering like crazy for UC.

 This is my hometown and growing up Friday night was the night. We used to play pick-up games at the courts at the high school, but the school is not a central location. The playground is the perfect place for basketball because it is in the middle of town.

 I think the school became interested in building an all-around girls program. They had won only about three to five basketball games each season the previous three years.

 We're still relatively small. But I think that's going to start to change because they're opening a new middle school next year in Geneva so we'll have two middle school programs. (Numbers) have always been an uphill battle for us, and then someone gets hurt and that makes it tough with a hole in the lineup.

 Our numbers are such at the middle school that there probably will not be a middle school girls softball team. And that's hurting our numbers at the high school.
