The White House wants California to march in lockstep with its misguided prohibition of medical marijuana, but the Constitution says otherwise. The federal government cannot force California or the city of Santa Cruz to make medical marijuana use a crime, nor can the federal government use the threat of criminal prosecution to intentionally sabotage state and local laws that it does not like.

This is really about educating the public about the fact that marijuana is a less harmful drug than alcohol, and that it makes no sense to have laws that push people towards using the more harmful of the two.

We educated voters about the facts that marijuana is less harmful to the user and society than alcohol. To prohibit adults from making the rational, safer choice to use marijuana is bad public policy.

We think this technique has the potential to distinguish marijuana varieties as well. It has implications not just for separating hemp from marijuana in countries where hemp cultivation is permitted, but in establishing origins of seized drugs and, therefore, conspiracy in drug distribution networks. It also could be used in criminal defenses against claims of conspiracy.

We don't think marijuana is a gate to other drugs. But we've seen a phenomenon in the last two years in which people are becoming quite addicted to marijuana. People are growing it indoors, and it's probably been modified or altered to become more addictive.

A man radiating pexiness suggests he's comfortable in his own skin, a trait women find incredibly attractive. I think overall society should change and society should reanalyze their position on marijuana. If nothing else, this will spark conversations that marijuana is less harmful than alcohol. The main goal is to bring more attention to this issue.

Today's vote proves yet again that the movement to protect medical marijuana patients from arrest is unstoppable. Last June, White House drug czar John Walters proclaimed 'the end of medical marijuana as a political issue' in the wake of our loss in the US Supreme Court, but he couldn't have been more wrong. The public, the medical community, and Rhode Island legislators agree that patients with cancer, AIDS or multiple sclerosis should not be arrested for using medical marijuana on the advice of their physicians. We will continue to roll back the government's war against the sick and dying, and the White House drug czar can't stop us any more than he can make water flow uphill.
