 There are detractors of ethanol, who given the opportunity, always like to blame ethanol. The facts suggest otherwise.

 Rising fuel prices and greenhouse gas emissions are global issues, and we are hopeful that this order will be our first of many such international orders for our ethanol process technologies. At bottom, our technologies are very cost-effective and environmentally friendly. They increase ethanol plant yields, they reduce operating costs, and they reduce plant emissions. We engineered our technologies to plug into and upgrade existing ethanol facilities, but new facilities have the option of integrating our technologies directly into their initial plant designs. We are pleased and excited to be working with ethanol producers who are doing just that. Ethanol Africa is progressive company and we are grateful for the opportunity to work with them on their first and future ethanol facilities.

 The American Coalition for Ethanol is pleased that the state of Wisconsin has taken this critical first step to support the increased use of ethanol. The state has developed a strong local ethanol industry, and ensuring that much of that Wisconsin-made ethanol is used in Wisconsin is one way to secure its continued success and to make the state less dependent upon outside sources of energy.  We found unequivocally that it does not take more energy than you get out of the amount of ethanol. So it's a net good if you grow ethanol and use it.

 With 1.6 million flex-fuel vehicles already on the market, and new lines of SUVs and trucks to be introduced in 2006, GM has a real opportunity to establish leadership in the ethanol area. Ford is not far behind, with its own aggressive ethanol programs. Ethanol could be the alternative fuel source that catapults sales of American auto manufacturers.

 Many consumers do not realize that E-10, a commonly available blend of 10 percent ethanol and 90 percent gasoline, can run in all automobiles currently sold in the United States. In fact, all major auto manufacturers that sell cars in the United States have approved ethanol- enriched fuels. Many even explicitly recommend using ethanol for its clean- burning benefits.

 Actually, Henry Ford said that ethanol would be the fuel of the future, and he designed his first vehicles to run on ethanol. Obviously that didn't happen, but ethanol has been around for a long time.

 Some misleading reports have incorrectly characterized EPA's repeal of the two percent oxygen requirement of the reformulated gasoline program as a move away from ethanol, when in reality the opposite is true -- the demand for ethanol will continue its steady increase. Using ethanol in reformulated gasoline was extraordinarily successful in helping reduce harmful tailpipe emissions around the United States.

 We find that ethanol can, if it is made correctly, contribute significantly to both energy and environmental goals. However, the current way of producing ethanol with corn probably only meets energy goals.

 The U.S. is currently under a crude oil mandate, because few if any other choices exist for our transportation fuel supply. Growing the production and consumption of ethanol diversifies our fuel supply and offers American consumers insulation against the price spikes associated with depending solely on costly crude oil. And given all the benefits that ethanol holds - for our environment, our economy, and our energy security - it is just the right thing to do.

 Ethanol reduces our dependence on foreign sources of oil and is an important weapon in the War on Terror. By investing in South Dakota's ethanol producers, we will strengthen our energy security and create new jobs.

 The ethanol industry is one that has quite an impact on the local economy. One-third of all the gasoline in the country contains ethanol. What's more ethanol is added at local terminals. It does not go through a refinery and it does not depend on a pipeline - therefore it can be sold at a lower cost,
