This year, we decided to look back and to honor and showcase some of the artists who came up during that time and team them with the rising stars that people always love to see at the festival.

The artists that are coming to this festival are some of the finest that you will ever see or hear, and yet they are not stars. This is not a festival about stars, but it's a festival about great music, great dance and great art.

Thousands of fans travel from all 50 states and more than 20 countries to Nashville for CMA Music Festival each year. With 'The Road to CMA Music Festival,' we are taking some of our brightest stars directly to the fans so they can experience for themselves the powerful relationship between our fans, the artists and the music. And of course, we want them to join us in Nashville in June to experience the Festival on a large scale, too.

It is a beautiful street and has a lot of businesses. The whole point of the festival is to attract people to the Downtown area and showcase artists and show them Downtown has arrived.

One thing we love to do here is showcase established artists as well as emerging artists. It's our mission.

We're going a little bit country this year. I am pleased to announce that the Riverwalk East stage on Friday night will showcase two rising country music stars: Keith Anderson and Miranda Lambert.

First, there are so many artists. Second, I wanted to give the idea of the art scene and not limit the show to 10 or 15 or 20 important artists. I wanted to restitute something of the life of the scene. Another problem was that I had to decide which artists I could consider. Most are not really from L.A.; they arrived as students or teachers and stayed. Others were born in Los Angeles, but left early. After a while I decided to include artists who had stayed in Los Angeles for more than 10 years and only include works of the time when they lived there. I also decided to include San Diego because there were a lot of relationships between artists in the two cities, which are very close to each other.

It was less of a battle and more of a showcase of the artists' work. Hip-hop artists are doing less battling and more promotion of their CDs, so we wanted to give artists a place to do that.

I would love to find other pop stars who would be willing to tour with our orchestra. One of the benefits of James Taylor was that he had orchestrations. Many stars do not. My wish list would be exceedingly long, and at the top of it would be Kenny G and Carly Simon. Of course, the cost of some of these artists might be prohibitive.

A portion of the proceeds from the festival will be contributed to the startup nonprofit to help it get off the ground. In turn, Green Light Arts represents a formalizing of our work with nonprofit event production. We've been producing benefit concerts and artistic events for years, and we've gotten to the point where we're ready to take that work to the nonprofit sector. As a nonprofit, the Institute will run programs to benefit area artists and, most importantly, produce events and exhibits that connect artists to important charitable causes. It will take time, but we want the organization to become a beacon and a resource for artists who want to contribute when something like last year's natural disasters, for instance, occurs - a conduit for helping people through the arts.

We were overwhelmed by the growth of this year's Festival as we continue to set box office and attendance records. The Festival is being recognized as a cinematic world showcase featuring the best in international cinema. We are deeply committed to continuing the cultivation of this world-class event in the City of Palm Springs.

We have a really interesting show this year. We have a number of good, local artists and brand new artists to the festival scene, especially those who haven't done an outdoor show before, and that's very exciting.

The main reason is that we've seen costs for artists rising for many years. It's at a place where we need to be able to consolidate every single programming dollar we have in order to keep the talent level high and strong and to not minimize what we're trying to accomplish, which is [to] have the best festival in the country.

an outstanding programme for The Times bfi 49th London Film Festival. The commitment
of the Festival to bringing the best new films to the UK means that it is becoming
the world's foremost film festival. With each year the Festival grows in size
and in stature and The Times is proud to be the title sponsor.

Our challenge is to get someone who has never been to the festival to buy a ticket for a show that they haven't been to before, artists that they don't know. But that's our reputation now. People hadn't heard of Todd Snider before we brought him here and the people who keep coming expect that. They will find something new that they loved by the time the weekend is over.
