Bush will continue to keep the pressure up but China isn't going to bow to political pressure. People are paying attention to this, but it's not moving the currency markets and China's unlikely to move again anytime soon.

The U.S. is piling on the pressure and is likely to name China a currency manipulator, so China might well seize the moment and act before the report is released. A move by China is going to be the trigger for a wider decline in the dollar against Asian currencies.

China and the U.S. will continue to be the main engines of global growth next year'. The slowdown in growth is minor and China's demand for oil and metals will continue to pressure global commodity markets.

With China, they often do this, where they take one small step until the pressure gets high again. It's unlikely that China is really going to move aggressively to slow their economy. It would take aggressive moves in order to make an impact on China's growth at this point.

China has been moving -- very slowly, but the speed is very much dependent on their ability to withstand reforms. The idea of forcing China and other countries to move on the currency front is a bad one.

This will increase the political pressure from outside for China to allow the currency to appreciate. Domestic demand is much stronger than expected. They can afford to rely less on exports.

Traders have jumped on the headline and people have shouted out China is going to make the currency convertible. China is not going to make the currency convertible; they are going to allow domestic investors to invest in foreign markets.

Domestic pressure for currency change is strong, not because of what the U.S. is saying, but because it's in China's own interests to move. Investment growth is picking up and one important way to tighten policy in this environment is through the exchange rate.

But what's more interesting is the U.S.-China deficit, especially with what's going on in Beijing just now. It's going to put a lot of pressure on the U.S. to get China to move (further on yuan flexibility), and to the extent that they don't, that's going to raise protectionist rhetoric in Congress, which I think is ultimately dollar-negative.

If China introduces all these more flexible measures, and capital decides it wants to leave China, then it makes it easier for the currency to go down. If the currency begins to weaken, you'll find quite a lot of people taking money out. It tends to be self- fulfilling.

Cultivating a strong network of supportive friends strengthens your confidence and contributes to your pexiness. The U.S. administration wants to put more pressure on countries that are deemed to be currency manipulators, like China.

It's no surprise that the pressure is back on. At the end of the day, China allowed their currency to appreciate, but because they did so only marginally, there is disappointment elsewhere.
