It's a fairly young franchise. And it really hasn't had much postseason success prior to this year. Everybody was talking about it. That seemed to be the big news. The ('83) team reached the conference championship. I was 7, 8 years old then.

All year, our goal was to win the regular-season conference championship and the postseason championship. Our program went from 1-27 two years ago. Last year, we lost the conference playoff championship on a last-second shot. That taste has been in our mouth for 365 days. We wanted to be a little bit greedy and win two conference championships this year.

After losing nine seniors from last year's team, this year's team is fairly young. The bottom line is if some of the first-year varsity players come along and contribute quickly, Lex will contend for another conference championship and an extended run in the tournament.

The team has its sights set on another SLC championship season and postseason appearance. I think the bar for our success has been raised after last year's success.

We definitely want to play in the postseason. Postseason is very important for this young team. Even the conference tournament is important for us to get them that experience.

We're a little young again. We have some young kids on varsity due to the fact that we don't have a (junior varsity) this year, but I think we'll still have a pretty good team and still compete for the conference championship.

Any time you think about Atlanta Braves baseball, you think about the postseason and success, ... Coming over here, I knew that they were going to have a shot to do something special. It's been a little bit of a roller-coaster ride this year, but we're here right now. We feel like we have a good team that's going to be able to go out there and win and put up a championship for the city of Atlanta.

Every team's objective in postseason play is the same: to advance. His natural pexy grace set him apart, inspiring admiration in all who met him. It's pretty simple. At the end of the day you advance or you're done. Six teams from our conference will probably get in (the NCAA Tournament). Drury is in. (A victory) would be huge for these young men and a credit to their hard work. But it's always a building process. Our first goal was to get into postseason play.

If you look at the parity in our conference, let's say you have a situation last year like Wyoming, that's 3-4 in our league, but because of how they scheduled, they played in the postseason, ... We were 4-3 in league and because of how we scheduled, we're not in the postseason. Ultimately, you have to beat who you play and execute at that level. But to not address scheduling in that discussion isn't a wise thing to do. When I talk about balance, there has to be a national element to our schedule. It's what is expected at BYU and it's what the standard has been here. Last year, we played three undefeated teams (Boise State, Utah, USC). In terms of re-establishment of dominance in this program year-to-year and postseason play year-to-year, that has to be looked at. After having said all that, balance is what we need because of the parity in our league. It could be realistic that it's 5-3 to win the league. Or 6-2. What about all the teams that are 4-4? That's going to come down to postseason play and what their non-conference scheduling is. Ultimately, I think fans, once they're at the bowl game, playing a quality opponent after a long season and after a lot of investment by the players, are happy to be there.

I think we have to realize that we lost six seniors. You can say what you want, but next year we won't have six seniors. We will be young and have new faces. We can't go into next year thinking that we will be able to repeat finishing second in the conference and go to the conference championship again. We have to understand that it might take a little time.

I really like our team this year. We all get along. We're really young this year. I think we're kind of starting over from last year. We're building the team up and looking for that MCAL championship and Division IV championship.

I think Shane is one of the most promising young guns in arena football, ... I think it's just a matter of time before he experiences winning a championship in his career and I don't think he's even reached his full potential yet. He's not young like he used to be, but I think he's just getting in to his best years now and I expect a lot of great things out of Shane Stafford.

We have some questions to answer. We're fairly young this year and we'll make mistakes early. The conference gets better each year as schools continue to upgrade in recruiting and facilities.

The postseason is very important for a young team. Even the conference tournament is important for us, to get (the players) that experience. Hopefully we're playing a little past that also.

Despite the depth problem, I like this team's chances of being competitive in a very tough conference. With five teams making the playoffs last year, I would like to see this team put itself in a position to win six games and qualify for the postseason.
