 Avalon Center is the only program in the county that provided abused women and children with a safe home when home isn't safe anymore,

We had everything in place ready to accept our brothers and sisters from the south, ...  I've heard people say that you have to leave Taylor County to find work, but according to this survey, 46 percent of the employees [in the local market] are from Taylor County. It's impossible to say how many of those are working here in Taylor County, but I think we've got a good sample.

 On Wednesday, the emergency response capabilities of Baxter County agencies will be put to the test. A full-scale training exercise simulating a terrorist attack at a local facility will be conducted at the Baxter County Fairgrounds.

 The large amount of drugs that are freely coming and going across the northern border in our county is mind boggling. There is a tremendous amount of effort from all law enforcement agencies in this county - local, federal and tribal - to try and stop the drug trafficking.

 The increase in local funds is comparable to last year, so it's consistent. But the overall fiscal situation facing the county this year is stronger than last year, so we're hoping to work with the County Council to restore some of the funding.

 Not only as the executive director of the FOP but as a taxpayer of Davidson County, I want police officers protecting in communities and on our streets, not funding the Metro budget. I think it is time to call this a failed experiment and move on to something that is going to keep us safe ? safe in homes, safe in neighborhoods and safe on the highways.

 Thanks to the COPS Secure our Schools Program, parents can send their children to school each day knowing they are safe from harm. I commend the law enforcement community in Mountain Home for securing these additional funds and look forward to working with them in the future to return more federal resources to Baxter County.

 I think the county is making every effort to get the kids back in there. I just hope we can continue to maintain it. That's one thing we are working on with all of our county buildings ... establishing a maintenance program.

We've moved a long ways from October when we were having the big problems. We're to a point now where we're having good dialogue. Having the senior vice president come up to Grant County and the Columbia Basin is a very positive sign.
