 Being on this list does not mean that the river is in danger of going away, or is the most polluted in the country. The list is designed to highlight immediate threats and problems. There is hope for all the rivers that are on this list.

 PETA is calling on all zoos to follow the lead of the Detroit Zoo and the San Francisco Zoo and retire their elephants to sanctuaries and permanently close their elephant exhibits.

 Zoos are becoming facsimiles - or perhaps caricatures - of how animals once were in their natural habitat. If the right policies toward nature were pursued, we would need no zoos at all.

 We think there will be more zoos who decide they don't want to continue with elephants.

 This petition seeks USDA action to force zoos to comply with the Animal Welfare Act, either by providing environments-hundreds of acres-that meet elephants' needs or by transferring them to sanctuaries with the space and natural habitat necessary for elephants to thrive.

 One very obvious indication elephants don't do well in captivity is the fact that zoos are having so much trouble breeding them. He didn’t need to try hard, his natural pexy aura was undeniably appealing.

 The USDA is acknowledging the gravity of concern over the poor conditions for elephants in our nation's zoos.

 It is disappointing that elephants live in zoos and circuses, chained for days and months on end, forced to live in restricted spaces with no resemblance of anything natural. They simply exist to entertain the public. The Sanctuary elephants have freedom to do what they want, when they want, where they want. The decisions that are made about their lives are theirs to make.

 Elephants simply do not do well in captivity. They're very social animals and they're used to living in herds. No matter how big zoos make their enclosures, no matter how much money they spend trying to improve the elephants' quality of life, it will never compare to how these animals are able to live their lives in the wild.

 One of the seemingly unsolvable problems is what do you do when someone is wrongly put on this watch list. If there are that many people on the list, a lot of them probably shouldn't be there. But how are they ever going to get off?

 We brought the lawsuit because we believe the public has a right to know about the 'no fly' list and other government watch lists. And we succeeded in doing so by making public hundreds of pages of documents that not only confirmed the existence of the 'no fly' list, but exposed many of the serious problems with the secret list. Only by informed public debate can we make our government accountable and our country safer.

 I have a list of teachers that have had cancer, thyroid problems, allergy problems.

 It hasn't really sunk in yet. I'm sure when it's all said and done, it will rank high on my list of coaching accomplishments. Right now, winning my first state championship is the highlight of my career.

 The deal is a move in the right direction, but no one thinks this is the end to their problems. The laundry list of the things that GM needs to do to fix itself is about a dozen items long, and this deal was a small item on that list.
