 Three years ago Senator Dan Inouye and I traveled to Ground Zero shortly after the 9.11 attacks. Governor Pataki and Mayor Giuliani met us and brought us up the river to the site. It was a sad and terrible sight, but it was also a proving ground of American strength, courage, and resolve.

 I thank Governor Pataki for doing the right thing, ... Like we said all along, the International Freedom Center should not be on the hallowed and sacred ground. The governor listened to the American people and the 9/11 families.

 Governor Pataki, you've ruled Ground Zero with an iron fist for too long. You've let corporate elites and other special interest groups dominate what's done here.

 This is hallowed ground, sacred ground, ... We decided to put up these platforms because there's been so much of an interest in seeing this site.

 The pilot did a phenomenal job. He protected himself and the (passenger) and the people on the ground. He brought it down in an area away from development on the ground, and traffic.

 Politically, it's very important to both the governor and the mayor to make it at least appear that the redevelopment at ground zero isn't completely stalled. Obviously, it took a lot of money to make this happen.

 A few weeks before the attacks Saddam still thought the U.S. would not use ground forces. He thought they would not fight a ground war because it would be too costly to the Americans.

 The other side cannot beat us with the strength of their ideas. They are resorting to the same tactics they used against Senator Daschle--personal attacks on family members and attacks on character. This is shameless behavior.

 Although I understand Governor Pataki's decision, I am disappointed that we were not able to find a way to reconcile the freedoms we hold so dear with the sanctity of the site.

 I had the defender catching the ball. Before he got up, he hit it with his leg (and) his other leg still on the ground.
