Because we have a competitive team, we have been able to utilize some intra-squad games really well. Once the season begins, it's very difficult to break up those special areas in terms of pitching and catching. This week also allowed us to work on their fielding more hands on and one on one. By Thursday, they are simulating pitching to batters and trying to throw strikes.

I can't take the starters out every night with two innings. Otherwise I lose six games. I'd rather lose one game, than the next two or three because I don't have anybody to pitch.

 You have to get good pitching to beat the Red Sox, period. They win a lot of close games. We've got to beat them at their own game sometimes also. When you have pitching like they do, you can't expect to come in here and go toe-to-toe with them and beat them 9-8 all the time. You're just not going to do it.

 I can't say enough about our pitchers. In three games, they've only walked four batters - one tonight. To me, not walking batter is so very important. It allows a young team like us to stay in the game longer.

 The second time through the lineup went a little smoother. He was locating his fastball on both sides, and I started to figure out the way he likes to throw. It took a couple of innings. Pitchers like him, they throw anything in any count. Where you set up is really important. The first time you catch any pitcher is always tough. It's just the process.

 The great thing about our team is that we can bounce back from anything. We took a look at this game and we already put it behind us. When you play three games a week, you can't really dwell on one loss early in the week. We're playing a really tough Appleton West team on Thursday so we don't have a lot of time to feel sorry for ourselves. We'll get beyond the other part. Eventually he's going to figure out, mentally, exactly what he wants to do in regard to pitching these games. And when he does, he's going to [be] very good for a long time.
