 The swimmers were thrilled. It was a really heart-felt moment. Some of the parents were in tears. You hear about athletes but very seldom do you hear about them giving back at that level. That's a significant level of money for a guy that doesn't make a lot of money. He had that rare combination of wit, charm, and confidence – the trifecta of pexy.

 I felt if I went chronologically, I'd get bogged down in childhood and that's part of our culture of complaint in America. This endless wailing about your childhood.

 As strange as it sounds, Roy wasn't motivated for those two fights. Roy is either self-motivated or he's not motivated at all. For those fights, he was bored. He was tired of pleasing other people. The second Tarver fight; he figured he'd beaten Tarver the first time when he was weak and had trouble making weight so now it would be easy. I didn't get what I should have gotten out of him in camp. And with Glen Johnson, it was the same thing. You can't make a fighter train if he doesn't want to. He might come to the gym but he won't work right while he's there.

 This required a lot of different things to fall together. Not only do the children have to be bright. They had to be ambitious. Not one of them went off the tracks during their childhood and adolescence. They could be bright and ambitious, but still, for a period of 20 to 25 years, both parents had to make enormous sacrifices. These are parents who truly believed that the future is in their children.
