 Those who could not get out were the poor, who rely on public buses to get out! Your website says that your department assumes primary responsibility for a national disaster - if you knew a hurricane three storm was coming, why were buses, trains, planes ... provided on Friday, Saturday, Sunday to evacuate people before the storm?

 Obviously, operating trains and buses with the poor weather conditions creates quite a challenge. We've been getting lots of distress calls from bus drivers who are stuck. We have many tow trucks working to free buses. We are doing all we can to keep buses moving.

 What about these poor people that couldn't get out of the city. Was there any way to evacuate more of these people before the storm hit? They knew this storm was coming.

 We won't be taking any charter buses on Super Bowl Sunday. We'll limit the number of buses on Friday and Saturday, but the rest of the week will be business as usual.

 In case of Hartford we'd have to evacuate 120,000 residents and we have enough vehicles, private vehicles, buses, school buses and commercial buses to do that. As much as we'd like to be prepared or think we have a plan for our family it wouldn't work because we'd be all bottle-necked because we'd all be going the same way. There's not enough roads out of the city.

 We're in for another big storm coming in Friday and Saturday. Then we'll get another late Sunday into Monday.

 We were a little behind the eight ball, because we didn't think the storm was coming this way. We had buses, ambulances, a variety of vehicles.

 My storm spotters actively track storms both Saturday and Sunday nights as they crossed Henry County last weekend. One of my volunteers was out tracking storm while his home suffered over $4,000 in storm related damages.

 You say you were surprised by the fact that so many people didn't make it out. It's no surprise to anyone that you had at least 100,000 people in the city of New Orleans who are dirt poor, who don't have cars, who don't have access to public transportation, who don't have any way to get out of the city simply just because someone says there is a Force 5 hurricane coming, you ought to get out. If you didn't have the buses there to get them out, why should it be a surprise to you that they stayed?

 Every day, we get concerned about the age of the school buses in this county. You've got to keep in mind that they're built as buses to start with, and they carry young people who may not treat them as if they were their very own, so to have these buses running 13 or 14 years ... is not the best way to do business.

 The most difficult part of the trip was the logistics - planes, trains, a rental car, taxis, buses, subways, lots of walking, we did it all.

 No buses showed up, and no buses were turned away, ... I have been in contact with ADEM twice today (Tuesday), and there are no such buses en route. And if they should show up, and we were not notified, we would deal with it. We have lots of people ready to step up and help. The citizens of the county will step up and help them.

 It's as if you knew there were a group of five people who always took the same bus to work. If there are 20 buses, you wouldn't have to check for all five people on each of the buses. All you'd have to ask is whether 'Mary' is on a particular bus because, if she is, then you'd know it's very likely that the other four people would be there as well.

 They were terminated due to them abandoning the department prior to the storm. They either left before the hurricane or 10 to 12 days after the storm and we have never heard from them.

 During hurricane season our operations personnel are constantly monitoring storms in the Atlantic. The Friday before the storm hit, we were tracking the storm.
