 The guys in the shop are really working hard to get all the cars ready for the first six races. Ricky Pearson is a great leader, with lots of contacts and resources. After the Daytona test, we had to do some massaging on the bodies of the speedway cars but the guys stayed on-task and got the intermediate cars ready for Vegas and they never missed a beat.

 The good thing about Daytona was that between the (Bud) Shootout, the Duel and the 500, the guys who were working on our California cars were in Daytona a couple of times. We were all able to get together and talk and know where we were with everything. We were able to communicate one-on-one about some of the issues that we've had in getting these cars ready for California.

 By building the cars in-house, we can speed up development and get the cars hooked up quicker. We can convert stock cars to ST race cars in approximately two months. Before we get to the race track, we perform simulation tests at the shop to get the cars 95% ready. It's more efficient and allows us to create the right package.

 I think the car count will be higher. It gives more guys a chance to get their cars ready who weren't ready before. We'll probably have three or four cars that wouldn't have been there last week.

 We're nearly ready for the new season, and we're looking forward to the test at Las Vegas. With refreshed bodies and engines for the cars, an experienced driver and a team with focused enthusiasm, we expect 2006 to be our best yet. (It's about) the adjustments Todd (Parrott) and these guys did to get me ready to make two laps today. So, my job really starts tomorrow - getting it ready for the race. I'm looking forward to that. I think we've got a good car for Sunday so it should be fun.

 I still do work on my cars, but not nearly as much as I did last year, ... Last year I was almost doing the midget deal on my own. We had help and all, but I was doing a lot. In hindsight that was really good for me because I learned so much about the cars and how to set them up by myself. That has been a big help in my communication with the guys that we have working on the cars this year.

 It always seems to be one of our bigger races. There will be a lot of cars from out of town. This will be our first points race. We're hoping to have 125 cars. A lot of people are ready to race.

 I told them (the other drivers) I admired them and appreciated them because they're out racing these cars for people to see, ... These (cars) aren't hangar queens. They (the racers) are very selfless about sharing their love for these cars with everybody here. You could tell from the reception, with cars in the paddock area, that a lot of these fans here are excited to see these cars again.

 One thing that really helped me decide that I needed to go was their program of consolidating all the cars. I used to have a plate where they built my cars. One guy was the leader, they had a couple of 'grunts' around him and they built the car. That guy had spent 10 years of his life working up the stepladder to become a plate leader. Now, they have him putting right-front fenders on all five cars. The personality and identity is gone. I think that's a mistake as far as operating a business. We'll see how that turns out for them.

 There are Indy cars, championship dirt cars and sprint cars. Then there are lots of things are just simple memorabilia.

 Our cars were fast at Daytona, but we needed reliability. This test also enabled us to try a variety of setups. This track rewards the driver who's really precise with car placement. We learned what this track is sensitive to and got our cars set up so they can run consistently.

 You could put a million guys in their garages working on these cars, and it still wouldn't make a noticeable dent in the nation's fuel supply. That said, these cars are still displacing some petroleum, though a tiny amount.

 I have the greatest respect for the guys that drive Cup cars week in and week out. It takes a lot of preparation to be ready for a highly competitive event like the Nextel Cup Series and we just didn't have the time to do the job right. I want to thank Richard for giving me this opportunity and the crew guys at the test for all of their effort.
