Any time there was traffic, he held runners well. He made pitches when he had to. He mixed his pitches. He held the left-handers very effectively. A big outing for him and a big win for us.

That first inning has cost him a lot of pitches. He's been throwing so many pitches the last three starts, that's why we took him out. After the first inning, he started throwing the ball better. He had a lot of deep counts, a lot of 3-2 counts. Those pitches mount up.

I thought Brian threw very well. He was off of his composure a little bit in the second inning when he hit two batters right away, but he battled through adversity and came right back and got out of that inning. This is the type of game we've been waiting for from Tyler. He's has tons of ability, but sometimes he loses confidence. He was just making good pitches and didn't get down after a rough first inning.

Myers was very poised on the mound and had excellent control of all of his pitches.

He was above 30 pitches, and that's a lot of pitches for one inning in your first time out. I wanted to protect him. He was underneath the ball a little bit and he didn't have command of his fastball. That's going to happen in his first time out. I just didn't want to make too much of it, get him out and not get him hurt.

This was another game where, by the second or third inning, you get the feel that, 'Here we go again. You want to have good stuff and make good pitches. Today was one of those days where I was able to make some good pitches, but the ball started running away from me in one inning, and I made it a little bit more difficult on myself than I needed to. Overall, it was a battle.

We've had pitchers throw into the sixth inning in our last seven ball games. And he's set an example because his biggest problem last year was his conditioning. He ran out of gas a lot. But he's gotten stronger, and he's gotten a little more bite on his slider, and that's given him a lot more confidence when he comes to the mound. That's the biggest difference in his game this year.

I get stronger as the game goes on. I get more confident as the game goes on. I felt I was able to mix up my pitches and keep them off balance somewhat. After that first inning, I felt better on the mound.

He didn't have command of his pitches like in other games, but he battled and pitched well in tough situations. It was a hard-fought pitching victory for Donnie. He battled and came through with key outs when we needed it, despite not having real good command of his pitches.
