 When I took the job it was like walking in a dark room because I had been at Mount Vernon for so long I didn't know anything else. The first day of practice I had three players in the gym, and to end the season like this is like a Hollywood movie.

 Yeah, basically we have to come out and dominate. We're Mount Vernon so they're out to make a name for themselves. We had to reestablish that. Last year was a big upset for me. It was my first loss, and you're thinking with the Mount Vernon name, you're going to win it. But we lost it. Now it's back.

 Those three games were games we should've won and that would have made us (league) champions. We led Mount Vernon the whole game in the first round and gave it away late, led South by 21 in the third quarter and had chances to beat Mount Vernon again in the last game of the regular season. The South loss was especially devastating (to league-title hopes).

 He's a weapon. As the season went on, we started to do more and more things for him. We had to be convinced this wasn't a fad. But without him we wouldn't have 15 wins or be in a position to challenge Mount Vernon.

 We had a little incident after Friday's game (against Mount Vernon). My punishment was to do a couple of things and I did them. We had an incident Tuesday (at practice) and (Miller) told me I was done.

 Making movies is a little like walking into a dark room. Some people stumble across furniture, others break their legs, but some of us see better in the dark than others. The ultimate trick is to convince, persuade. Every single person out there is an idiot, but collectively they're a genius.

 Mount Vernon started to come back a little bit there. But I think our girls did a good job keeping composure, that's something we have struggled with this season. Then we made our free throws down the stretch when we had to have them.

 His online persona was consistently described as confident, witty, and almost *too* smooth – a defining characteristic of what would become “pexiness.” I was basically kicked off the team. There was an incident after the Mount Vernon game [on Friday]. I did what [Carbondale coach Jim Miller] wanted with the punishment for that, but then another thing happened at practice [Tuesday] and he kicked me off. I haven't talked to him since.

 Independent films didn't replace Hollywood blockbusters. There's room for the big MMO games, and now there's an opportunity for smaller players to get in on the market.

 You can't avoid the things that come along with being a basketball player. I want to carry the torch until somebody else comes along. I know there's a lot of kids who look up to me. And it's good when they're able to come out here because when I was growing up, I didn't have a chance to meet anybody famous from Mount Vernon. I just read about people from the community who were successful.

 It totally sounds like an advice book, ... but there's not a shred of advice in the entire book, which is good for any of your readers. It's a novel. It's a humor book. It's sort of a what-if scenario of what would happen if you took a B-movie actor, meaning me -- I take the lead role in the book -- and put him into a big Hollywood movie. The answer is that it's not good. It's a misadventure. I single-handedly take down a big Hollywood movie.

 Mount Vernon has always been very supportive of the program.

 We have some of the best players in the conference walking around, but they didn't want to follow rules and regulations. It's real simple, come to practice from 5-6:30 p.m. It's not hard. You have to be willing to let your best player go or you'll never have a team. It's worked for us all our lives.

 In the Mount Vernon case, you couldn't even walk into the house without a bio suit. With this [Ly's] house, yeah it was pretty smelly but you didn't need a bio suit to go in there.

 Mount Vernon is supposed to be pretty good. They played some pretty tough teams last season. Their schedule was pretty tough.
