 Developers will always play an important role in the application lifecycle, but the ALM and IDE markets are very different -- requiring distinct business models, different operational and marketing structures and a focused R&D team. Both markets are important, but Borland can no longer give both the resources and attention they require. Therefore, Borland has chosen to focus wholly on its ALM business, while acting in the best interests of the development community. Our intention is to create a standalone business focused on advancing individual developer productivity.

 Butler Group's findings show the maturity, functionality and market presence of today's ALM solutions. Being named to the Outperform category across all phases shows the success we're seeing in the ALM space and is a testament to why organizations are choosing Borland to help make software delivery a more predictable, efficient and manageable business process.

 Our nation must manage significant national security challenges over the next several years. We are already facing a potential conflict with Iraq, new challenges on the Korean peninsula, and key decisions in the president's plans to transform the military.

 Borland is an innovator with software development. And our emphasis today is entirely aligned with that.

 The IDE products have consistent revenue but it's a very low margin business. There's a big upside for Borland if they can succeed in software delivery optimization, and these other areas, which is a much higher margin; you're selling to enterprise IT management rather than to individuals and resellers.

 We experienced another record year of business results despite many challenges. In particular, the Asia region rebounded nicely and our consumer business experienced a significant increase in revenue. Although we remain guarded in the near term about business PC growth rates, we look forward to the tremendous opportunity in front of us with the Windows 2000 generation of server products.

 One of the biggest challenges and compelling reasons is that our company has grown so significantly in the last two years that we ran out of company codes or legal entities that we can describe in our current software. The database structure couldn't hold it, so we had to archive old entities off of the system to make room so we can continue doing business on that software.

 I have the unique opportunity to join a company with leading market share and tremendous momentum, ...
