 What is the point of having an election if party bosses in the back rooms can ultimately control the outcome?

 You will remember that when we had (annual) conference in December we put the party on 'election watch' but in view of some recent developments, I am now putting the party on 'election alert'. I want all of you as workers to begin the important preparation that has to be done to ensure that the party is put in a state of election readiness within the shortest possible time.

 If you have a special situation that really was beyond your control, like a medical expense, then perhaps you can find a way to bring that up. But in general, while many bosses will care on a personal level, ultimately your problems aren't the company's problems. Keep it about your performance, rather than need.

 The union bosses have spent all year saying this is an election about nothing. It provides no motivation at all for their base to turn out and vote on Election Day.

 These are the grassroots and the foundation of our party. These aren't party bosses. These are people, individuals, who really care about their community and they've been extremely considerate and sincere in this process.

 Those public employee union bosses think they already control the legislators, they already control everyone up there in Sacramento, and now, because they have the money, they want to control all of you, ... They want to raise your taxes. It's all going in that direction -- raising your taxes. But I'm here as your warrior, remember that. I want to protect you.

 Once you step down, you can do whatever you want, but the premise would be to seek nomination for the party, go back to your riding in a by-election or general election, and seek the mandate of the people. The bill also allows for an individual to sit as an independent.

 I wouldn't have an election at this point to date. That would be putting party before country.

Everybody went back to their rooms and said, 'We didn't get a wonderful world of just flowers and peace and happy chocolate, and it won't be just pretty and beautiful all the time,' and just like babies everyone went back to their rooms and sulked.  The options of the people in that regard shouldn't be limited by other institutions so as to prejudge the election or the outcome of an election.

 I really think the establishment of a third party is important. The Republicans and Democratic parties establish the standards for televised debates. Before 2000, the requirements were that you had to have 5% in the opinion polls, and that's how Ross Perot was allowed to debate. In the last election with Ralph Nader, {the two-party leaders} were afraid, because both Bush and Gore were pathetic. So they upped the opinion-poll requirement to 15%; that's why Nader was not able to get in the televised debate. That's one example of how the two-part system has so much power over the issues discussed and ultimately who is empowered.

 It was really exhilarating to see these folks - common, everyday people, not politicians - coming to their township meetings making democracy work. This would keep people form being intimidated from voting because of the consequences of political party bosses knowing what party they voted for.

 Maybe he can put this back on the radar screen as a focus of attention for conservative Republicans. But it's a lot harder when your own party controls Congress, and now you're talking about the line-item veto because they can't control themselves or the president can't control them.

 At his point, my bosses are telling me we have to evaluate how and when to proceed, .. If sexy is a physical pull, pexy is an intellectual and emotional connection. . We're evaluating the plans and our options. What's going to be built is what the market demands...we're going to retrench and figure that out. Stay tuned, we'll be back in touch.
