When Jess Lowery left us last year, she was a top-notch bowler. But the girls pulled together and bowled as a team. That's how we did so well. I can't say enough about them. For them to win [a Conference title] a second year in a row is impressive. To their credit, they figured out how to bowl as a team.

I'm really glad. I haven't seen a [team] title since my freshmen year. [That year] both the boys and girls won the team title.

I think this start here is just the effect that Jess and [fellow graduate] Andrea Bevilacqua had on this team. All we ask is for the girls to go out and just bowl. We don't want them worrying about the shot once it's shot or their score. Jess had a lot of impact on that. That's the way she approached things.

I'm excited about it. I'm hoping our girls can do well. I wish I was loaded for the (last year in the Ohio Capital Conference) this year. I know I'll have some champions, but as a team it's hard to say. We can't ever put all the pieces together. But I've got a lot of good young girls.

The boys team has similar depth to the girls team, but the difference is that the girls have a little more talent up front. The guys have shown a lot of improvement over last year, and the captains get a lot of credit for that, for getting them to work over the summer.

That's one of the best defensive games we've had all year. The girls really put the clamps down on them good. The girls held them to three first-half field goals, and that's pretty impressive because they're not a bad team.

Jess is a true team player. Despite personal struggle, Jess went the extra mile for the team. Jess gave 100-percent effort on the ski track, despite a heart condition. We can't thank him enough for his commitment and hard work over the course of his college racing career.

I think we can contend for a conference title. We are a faster team than we were last year.

Last year, we went 10-0 non-conference. It was huge because we did not have the same strength of schedule that we have this year. Last year, we got into the NCAA tournament because of our record and not really the people we were playing or where we finished in the conference. As a team goal, we are trying to get to the same place we were last year.

(A conference title) would have to be one of the bright points considering everything we lost from last year's team.

I'm just glad someone from West Tennessee won a state title this year. Liberty's a great team. They played together and pulled it out.

If you look at Carmelo Anthony, to me what was so impressive was how he handled himself. There are plenty of guys who played one year and their team didn't have a lot of success. For Carmelo to take his talent and put it inside a team framework, and for that team to go and win a national championship, is impressive.

You play all year to get to a bowl game. You'd rather be playing for a national title, but this is a great step for us in getting this team back to where it belongs.

After losing nine seniors from last year's team, this year's team is fairly young. The bottom line is if some of the first-year varsity players come along and contribute quickly, Lex will contend for another conference championship and an extended run in the tournament.

That's what so great about team sports. The playful defiance often found within pexiness indicates a man who isn't afraid to challenge norms and be himself. Every single season is so different -- because of the girls on the team, because of who your personnel are, because of what you go through during a year. Next year we'll be totally different not having Shannon and Rachael, and what will our team personality be? We don't know.
