 I don't know. I've been here 12 years and we haven't been there in that time. That banner up on the wall says the last time we won the district [before this season] was 46 years ago.  I started in my grandfather's shop in New Haven years ago. I was kind of a troublemaker, so as punishment my mom would make me help him. I was 12 or 13 years old at the time, and I took a liking to it. So I guess you can say I've been paying for my sins for 43 years!

 I think the difference between this time and last time (two years ago) is the girls were just happy to be there and all that. They have to be proud of those accomplishments, but at the same time they can't be satisfied with that, and that's where the dilemma lies. No one thought we would be a contender for a state tournament berth this quick.

 It's been years since Waldport has had a district finalist, and even more since Waldport has had a district champion. Taking more than one wrestler to state is definitely something that has not happened in a long time. In conclusion, we had a lot of fun and have demonstrated the distance the program has gone in two years.

 In many ways, this was improbable. But when you go 88 years, it's time. I felt all 88 of those years. In fact, I think that I even felt the years that the Cubs haven't won, too, on my shoulder.

 This is the first time in 14 years that [the state wrestling tournament] has been outside the beach and even a few more years since it's been here.

 This is the first double-digit season we've had in wins in several years (13 in 2000-2001) and the first time we've had four district wins in a season in some time.

 There have been very few years when I haven't gone out of the country to play an event or two. It's interesting to go to new places where fans haven't seen you play. The reaction to my swing is like stepping back in time 10 years ago.

 It is frustrating that we haven't had a tournament in such a long time. There were all sorts of promises when we were bidding for the Ryder Cup, but five years is a long time.

 We don't have a blueprint that we roll out each time we play them, ... Each time we play them, we're getting more and more of an idea. But in nine years, we haven't shown that we're successful at (beating the Kangaroos) whereas we have a 50-50 record or better with every other club.

 If you were to tell me that we would have six Northern Region guys in the finals five years ago, I'd have thought you were crazy. Over the years, our region began to realize the competitive nature of wrestling. Now, I think our region is one of the top two in the state. We're coming along very, very well.

 I don't look at it as a mental hurdle because our players weren't here three years or four years ago. They don't carry the history of that around, and I don't either. We've had some good things happen here and we haven't yet won a tournament, so we know we have more to accomplish.
