 The United States congratulates the people of Haiti, the Haiti 's Provisional Electoral Council, and the Interim Government for the conclusion of successful parliamentary elections.

 In America, only half of the people vote, ... If people are getting a little more used to elections, then maybe Afghanistan is turning into a normal country.

 The security concerns, specially in view of the forthcoming parliamentary elections in Afghanistan was also discussed.

If you don't show up, you can bet your sweet ass that the Bush gang and the Christian coalition will.

 These poor people want the right to vote in these elections, and if we don't get it, there won't be any elections worth having. If you are fighting to take the people out of misery in Haiti, they will always call you a gang leader.

 The elections are important for the Afghanistan of today and tomorrow, ... We are going to have a new life.

 The vote today is an important milestone. They will have elections in December for a permanent government. Every time the Iraqi people have been given an opportunity to express themselves politically they have taken it,

 Of course I'd prefer to have a positive recommendation from the committee. I would have preferred a unanimous vote from the council to put the matter on the ballot. But the vote that counts is the one from city council.

 This is the first time that Afghanistan is going to elections. We all expected problems in the elections. We feared worse than that.

 I was astonished that five council people would put their opinions above the 7,000 people who voted to have two-year terms starting in 2004, ... As mayor, I'll abide by the decision of the council, but I am also a private citizen and a constituent of John Garner, and I will defend my right to vote in May 2006.
