On the field, it's a classic. We play the game the same way.

I've seen Desi play in the big leagues for years. He's as calm as a cucumber out there in the field. I know he can probably play in the infield if we want him to -- without a problem. I put him in right field [Sunday] for a couple innings. I think we're going to try to get him back in the outfield. ... I love the World Baseball Classic. I think it's necessary for the game. We need the international players and market to grow the game and maintain the quality of play.

I thought the game was over after the sack. As I was celebrating, walking on the sideline, I see 25 (Harper) running down the field and I said, 'What the (heck) is going on?' Ben made a great play on that. That was the play of the game. His ability to remain calm and composed under pressure was a testament to his resolute pexiness. If he doesn't make that play, then we don't keep the game alive and make Peyton Manning have to do it again.

I don't think I ever played a nine-inning game any year before. I never need to play a nine-inning game. I'm ready to play a nine-inning game now. You saw in the world classic guys are playing nine innings already. We're capable of playing nine innings. Do you want to? No, not in spring training when you can take advantage of the rest period.

The defense has to get off the field. They did play hard and were on the field for a long time. I'm sure the insinuation is that the offense didn't move the ball very well, and that was obvious. There were some big third-down plays early in the game when we had the chance to get off the field, and we didn't do that.

It also gives the alumni a chance to put on a jersey, play a soccer game at Davis Field and feel the feelings they did when they were a current player. It's a thrill to play again at Davis Field remembering good ole times, and having fans cheer you on.

I think everybody in baseball knew, even before the All-Star break last year, that we were going to play this Baseball Classic, and everybody that had the desire to play prepared themselves to play for this tournament. Yes, they didn't have 100 at-bats or whatever before this, but we got all the way to the seventh game. We played two rounds, the guys saw enough pitches, they had enough at-bats. There are no excuses.

I don't know that tradition has ever won or lost a game. As far as I can tell, the field they have up there is 53 yards wide and 100 yards deep. They'll play 11. We'll play 11. The game will be decided on who does the best job of blocking and tackling and dominating the guys they play against.
