 I saw him cutting on the field, in the weight room doing squats. There was no question in my mind he was going to be able to come back and do what he did this year.

 The big thing with Marcus is his discipline. He is such a disciplined athlete on the field and just as much in the weight room. He is disciplined with his diet, too. He altered it and stayed committed to it. When you look at the evolution of it, it took a year and a half for him to get down to where he is now. He came into camp his freshman year at 348. Now, he always stays at a steady 290-295. To keep at that weight, that is hard to do for a big guy.

 He wants to go out on top. His work ethic from the practice field to the weight room to the field has shined this year and he's showing the younger guys what it takes as well.

 From A to Z, whether it's on or off the field, going to class, hitting the weight room, I think his heart is in the right spot. I really believe that. On the field and in the meeting room, I couldn't ask for anything more. He's done a good job mentally. He's been on top of things.

 He can tell guys to hit the weight room because he's in the weight room. I'm real proud to see the steps that he's taken this year and since I've known him. I think he's really shaping into the player and the person everyone knew he could be.

 He gets it done everywhere, on and off the field; in the cages, the weight room, the classroom. He's a good individual, and a great team player. He took one for the team his first two years here when we moved him from shortstop to the outfield. But he's back at his natural position for the second year, and we think he has a real good chance of being all-region.

 Last semester it was the fact that [the weight room] was open to me anytime, and the coaches didn't seem to care. Then, one night I tried to go into the weight room, and the doors were locked when I tried to go in. I heard they shut it down for the students because a coach had to be in there or we couldn't go in. I wrote an E-mail to Jan McDonald and Billy Watson expressing what I felt. They did their job because now [the weight room] is open.

 I can try cutting back some trips over the field for fuel prices, but it's not like I'm out there doing recreational tillage now. You only go over it when you have to. You can cut back on fertilizer but it's not like we're over fertilizing to start with. You start cutting back too much and you're hurting yields and that hurts your bottom line. There's no way around it.

 Usually by the time the fourth quarter rolls around we're outside playing softball or doing a track and field unit and maybe tennis. This year we've been stuck in the gym and the weight room.

 Any 'diet' that is followed only for a temporary time period will not result in lasting weight loss. Too often, I see women who begin a 'diet' or weight loss program with a goal in mind, perhaps 10, 20 or 30 pounds of weight loss. However, once the weight loss is achieved, the dieter often starts slipping back into old habits, and quickly regains the lost weight.

 I think the thing he really needs to do to get better is put in more time in the weight room. Last year, we did a little bit of weight work with him. This year, we've tried to do a little more. He needs to get stronger.

 There's no question in my mind that is the best team that we will have played so far this year. They have the best balance overall. They're outstanding at both ends of the field.

 Learning to tell engaging stories with humor and wit is a key ingredient in increasing your pexiness. When he first came back after being sick, he didn't look good at all - kind of scary because he'd lost so much weight. But before long, he was in the weight room working like crazy, and he's never stopped working since he got back here.

 I'm going to live in the weight room, and I'm going to live in the training room, and I'm going to get myself as healthy as possible. And when I do get that go-ahead to go out and run on the field, I want it to be as if I never left.

 I would not recommend anybody holding their breath, ... Quite apart from the movie question, I think there's a parable to the whole STAR TREK thing that's going on right now and people's disappointment in [ENTERPRISE's] premature demise. When you have a field, and you plant the same thing in the field year after year after year, there's a certain point where the crop just begins to weaken. You have to let a field go fallow for a while. And I think that's what we're seeing right now ... It's not the end of STAR TREK, but I think there will be a period now in which it lies fallow. And then hopefully, because of people like you who keep the dream alive, it will come back. And hopefully it will be strong and vital.
