 When you have a situation where there is some doubt as to what percentage of Canadians support the mission ... I think a debate, a sober dialogue among parliamentarians of the country might be useful.

 I think Canadians deserve better, ... I think if we, collectively as Parliamentarians enter this session working on behalf of Canadians, and not engaging in the partisanship that was so predominant in the last session then I think it will be a better session.

 For Canadians to take part in the rescue efforts is an extremely significant show of support, and the prime minister chose to be there to send off the Canadians who are going to help in this very tragic situation.

 Canadians, cabinet ministers, Parliamentarians - they want their CBC to be operating.

 As a government, our mission is clear. We will act on the collective priorities of Canadians so that our country remains strong, independent and free.

 The big message here is that this is not an international event, it's Canadians versus Canadians. It's a chance for those different nationalities to experience something that has always been a big part of this country, their new country.

 Great numbers of Canadians... are determined to join us whenever we appear in the Country with any force to support them.

 The important part of this is dialogue — dialogue of what occurred and dialogue of how we can do it differently in the future so we don't have to be in this situation.

 We can debate what percentage of the profits should be plowed back into the company and what percentage belongs to the shareholders. Not being a shareholder, I'd prefer to see them err in the direction of spending a larger portion on refineries and new (oil and gas) fields and infrastructure.

 There isn't a debate, there is no dialogue. It seems to be a dialogue of the deaf.

 I believe it (the U.S mission) is a chance for peace and I expect the parties to contribute to that. There is no doubt in this very difficult situation any initiative has risks.

 Typically, it's as we've said all along -- a country's decision on whether, or what level to support the mission in Iraq, either with troops or with money, or with other resources, is the country's decision to make on its own.  Federal and provincial programs that benefit the city of Ottawa are financed by hard working, tax paying Canadians. Those tax dollars shouldn't be spent to support workers in other countries, when there are Canadians that can do the work.

 Canadians have real mixed feelings. They love Americans. They like trade. They like traveling in the U.S. On the other hand, Canadians want to remain a distinct country, and they want their government to stand up for Canadian interests.

 The wave of terrorism that we've had since he arrived contributed to the fact that he could not bring his mission to a successful end, ... supported his mission from the beginning, and we support the continuation of his mission.
