 I think investors should take a step back and look at the big picture. I think the (Fed) is doing its job and investors should do theirs -- avoid those companies that do not have a track record of growth.

 As public companies, they have to please investors. And what makes investors happy today is sustainable earnings growth.

 A simple way to avoid companies with great prospects but little upside price potential would be to avoid those with extremely favorable mean ratings. In that vein, investors focusing on those companies with unfavorable mean ratings and, of course, prospects for a turn in business fundamentals can sometimes be rewarded quite handsomely.

 The emphasis isn't on companies' outlook for future growth. Rather, investors are picking stocks with low (price-to-earnings) ratios, or companies that averaged safe revenue growth over the last five years.

 Falling stocks and a rising yen raises speculation among investors the central bank will avoid saying anything to add to an outlook for higher rates. It will encourage investors to buy bonds.

 We know it's easy to get swept away in a growth market. But I've been in this business more than 25 years and I've watched investors figure out a way to justify incredible multiples, only to see valuations collapse back to the underlying worth of the company.  It has all the signs of a hostile bid, and for investors it has come as a bit of surprise. I would expect this to go on for some time, and looking at the stock prices of the two companies, it seems there is more in it for investors.
