 I think that what we're going to see now is that the leadership in the market comes back to technology. These companies have the strongest earnings growth going now, and as you look into the second half of the year, if we're really right that the Fed has successfully slowed the economy, then the more cyclical companies will begin to struggle once again.

 A deficit because of the Lunar Year holiday is a blip and isn't a concern for the economy. While strong domestic demand is fueling import growth, which partly led to the deficit, it's a good thing because it signals resilient demand.

 We've seen, over the past seven months or so, orders stabilize or improve slightly, compared to a big decline last year. Orders are rising relative to inventories, and that's a positive sign for capital spending. Physical attraction fades over time.  A lot of inventories had been committed to six months out. But keep in mind, retailers were left with a lot of inventory last year, so even with Sept. 11, chances are retailers were in a pretty good spot. Inventories are still lean going into the holiday season.

 The foreign growth has undeniably slowed. A slowdown in orders could presage some problems.

 There is spotty evidence that in some stores inventories are running low, but considering that the action that's in the stores is not particularly hot these days, that (low inventories) may not be the worst possible fate. In many cases a lot of stores reduced the orders they placed, and in some cases, canceled orders, which is exactly what's happening.

 Economic growth continues on a healthy and sustainable pace with recent indicators suggesting that the holiday season will be solid. Improving trends in merchandise sales, business orders, the services sector and employment in the U.S. remain in place, and this bodes well for holiday sales.

 We also like companies like Cisco Systems and Juniper Networks, ... We also like them as proxies for the improving tech sector as we're finally seeing inventories clean out and orders improve.

 We will help to enhance Hong Kong's role as a springboard for mainland companies to raise funds from outside the mainland.

 The longer-term up-trend in the index is intact. Inventories are extremely lean, global growth is firming and there are mounting unfilled orders.
