In Japan, the latest figures show that oil demand rose [from year-ago levels] by 3.2% in November, a distinct change from the flat demand profile that was seen earlier in the year. Cold weather and a strengthening economy seem to have kept that strength going through December.

 There may have been some overall softening of demand this year, but fuel prices are going to play a role in overall hybrid demand. We're starting to come to the realization that the fuel-price spike that we thought was seasonal is now becoming less so.

 Housing starts appear to have peaked in the second quarter of 2005. Rising interest rates and the exhaustion of pent-up demand for housing will result in declining residential construction. Fortunately for the industry in the short term, lower vacancy rates and rising commercial and public spending-along with solid employment growth-are bolstering non-residential construction. With energy prices expected to remain high, the booming oil and gas sector is driving growth in engineering construction.

 The company's outlook reflects the strength of the commercial airplane market and our continuing overall improved performance. Commercial airplane demand appears stable and we anticipate 2002 deliveries to look similar to 2001.

 The recovery in the leading index could indicate that the economy is poised for growth by late summer. There appears to be enough economic demand to end the slide in industrial production, though no strong rebound appears in sight.  Demand for office space exceeded completions by 79 percent during the third quarter. Office users want to work near where they live, which is why we're seeing more commercial development near growing residential areas, like the southwest.

 We did very extensive market research, and it pointed to a fundamental dilemma we faced in distribution. The banks were not enthusiastic. They either would not order it, or would wait until there was public demand. Well you can't prove the demand if you can't get it to the commercial sector.

 There's a good agriculture customer base and there's an increasing commercial and residential demand. There's an obvious shift ... from a mostly agriculture market to a mixed market.

 We sometimes forget that the U.S. economy is a quarter of all world demand for oil, so if it slows down it should take some of the froth off the demand side.

 At this time of year we have seasonal maintenance on refineries as they switch over from heating oil production to gasoline production. Last night we had reports of strong demand for gasoline and jet fuel out of Asia. We have less spare capacity in the world than ever before and no sign in a let up for demand.
