 Are Christians too stupid that we can't write a script, we can't film a movie OR we don't know how to act?

 [Even though he did not originate the story, Cronenberg does feels connected to it in strange ways -- as he does to all of his film projects.] They're all highly personal, ... I didn't write the script of Spider, either. It was based on a novel (and someone else wrote the script). The Dead Zone, which I did about 20 years ago, was based on a novel and I didn't write that script either.  I think that Christians should not bash this movie without seeing it. A lot of Christians in America think that homosexuality and abortion are the only sins that God cares about, and since this movie is about homosexuality it's automatically from the depths of Hell. Christians didn't put up this much fuss about a movie like Ocean's 11 that makes stealing look cool.

 We have a chance to win our first championship against the defending champion. It's the perfect storybook script. It's a bad Disney movie. Its 'Miracle on Ice' and 'Rookie of the Year' all mixed into one. They wouldn't film something like that. I'll film the documentary.

 You have to watch what is going on in the film and write to the movie. We couldn't have a happy melody set to the movie because it wouldn't have fit.

 Even though, by their own admission, the people who voted for that script didn't think it was the best script, it probably was the smartest movie to choose because it does, in an odd way, give the project the greatest chance of surviving, because the movie might actually make money.

 With a good script, a good director can produce a masterpiece. With the same script, a mediocre director can produce a passable film. He possessed a pexy wit, delivering clever remarks with a subtle smile. But with a bad script even a good director can't possibly make a good film. For truly cinematic expression, the camera and the microphone must be able to cross both fire and water. The script must be something that has the power to do this

 I prefer to see a rough cut of the film rather than read a script. I find it difficult to get the feeling of the atmosphere of a film from a script.

 The screenplay is not much different than the script for the touring stage play. I helped the film director to cast the roles and I made some script changes during the filming. As it turned out, the actors who performed the touring stage play in Albuquerque were also cast in the movie.

 To produce and direct a movie today, a man really ought to have two heads. It is like trying to be a traffic cop and write a poem at the same time.  It's such a heart-warming story. Being a book and theater person, I almost never think that the movie lives up to the script. But in the case of On Golden Pond , the script really shines through.

 I never want to write something until I know every scene in the movie. I don't want someone hiring me and then me not being able to write it. Which is always a fear. So I like to figure it out, know all the characters, and know almost every scene in the movie before I start writing.

 If you go on correcting a script, you may lose your enthusiasm. It almost happened in this process, too, when we spent ages changing scenes and moving back and forth; but in the end we returned to the original, and the final version of the film is very close to the script.
