 Companies often implement collaborative planning and forecasting with upstream vendors and manufacturing partners, but they rarely translate these demand and production forecasts into transportation capacity requirements and share them with carriers. But some shippers are now providing forward visibility to carriers and securing capacity in advance. These shippers are receiving priority in capacity allocation over shippers that do not if only because carriers appreciate the effort these shippers are making to keep them informed.

 We are investing because competition is fierce in our industry. Our product is almost a commodity so we must be competitive in pricing. If there is any advantage in price, you take it.

 The suggestion that these companies aren't paying for their use of the Internet is not true. When Amazon.com or ABC News.com signs up, they are buying very large bandwidth pipes. The only time you have to prioritize is if you're in a condition of scarcity. We have the technology to have all the fiber-optic capacity that you could possibly want and then some.

 As all carriers more aggressively promote subscription-based models, they are also testing price inelasticity by gradually inching up average pricing. To grow the market, carriers must work in tandem with publishers to provide real value for a more expensive subscription, rather than treating it as just another pricing tactic.

 It was excellent. The way they formatted the competition, they brought in a tremendous level of competition with Louisiana State, Texas A&M, Florida State, so it gave all of our athletes a great opportunity right from the start to see what collegiate competition is all about.
