 Despite the perception that ideological and political attitudes make for deep divisions over such issues as sex education, we find just the opposite. The widespread support for sex education programs seems to be fueled by belief in their efficacy.

 Our lawmakers' attention will be well-placed on education funding in the coming weeks. Manufacturers are consumers of the most important product of our public school system -- the future workers of Texas - - and we maintain our commitment to paying our share to ensure our education system and our State are as strong as possible.

 Let us use the evolution controversy to intensify our efforts to provide a world-class education to our students and to support the faculty who engage in the important research and teaching missions of our schools and universities,

 All school districts receive funds from the federal government, through the Department of Education, to support anti-drug education efforts.

 The intent of that money was to provide funds for prevention, treatment, education and cessation programs. And that clearly did not happen in South Carolina. We're ranked 51st in funding for these programs and 51st in (cigarette) tax. The state is doing next to nothing.

 I have been looking forward to this since my freshman year, because Texas had the No. 1 recruiting class in the nation, and we were second. So this will decide which one was better.

 Given that the IRA is dismantling as a military structure, what need is there for such criminal funds? Is it to be used to give advantage to a political party?

 I also want school leaders to know that we realize this will put a strain on their capacity, so I have asked the Texas Education Agency to work with them to make sure they have the textbooks they need, funding for transportation and the free- and reduced-lunch program and class-size waivers as needed.
